Water butts are a good idea. I think you need to show to your neighbour that you are working with them to resolve the issue as it affects you and not come across as making demands on them.kdotdotdotdot said:Would getting a water butt (or two) to catch all that water help? Would be great use for watering the garden, especially if you're on a meter.
If there's also a dispute about the fence, you can always get another one put up on your land. You may lose a few inches of garden to ensure that your fence doesn't touch theirs, but that's probably worthwhile isn't it?As I understand it, Whiterose has not 'made demands', but has requested - rightly so.WR is also happy to do the work at their own expense.I think they just want to know if this lady will pull away their ladder or sumfink.2 -
Great idea re the water butt. It had crossed my mind but I think I’ll need to alter the pipe work as the rain runs down the wall so I’d need to redirect it more efficiently …kdotdotdotdot said:Would getting a water butt (or two) to catch all that water help? Yes this is the worry! I could be sued for ‘criminal damage’ lolJeepers_Creepers said:Cool, so when Whiterose puts up their ladder and drills numerous holes in another person's house wall, there's now't they can do.Fab.There you go, WR - what's you waiting for?1 -
She actually isn’t that old… she looks in her 70s but may be younger. But just angry and paranoid. The last time I heard from her was when she hammered at my door at 2am in the morning asking why my daughter talking about her. We had no idea who she was as we hadn’t been there long, or what she was referring to and I assumed she was drunk. She eventually went away. She appears to think we are someone else as she told me to ‘go and live at my other house’ … except I don’t have one (I wish I did!)Rosa_Damascena said:
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Does she use a waking stick?Jeepers_Creepers said:Whiterose23 said:Yes I’m going to have to pluck up courage! It’s all rather strange as we’ve only set eyes on them half a dozen times in the last few years and all of a sudden she has appeared out of nowhere ranting and raving at us because we are looking at sorting out the fencing. I guess they find it difficult when people move in and make changes. By all accounts the neighbours on the other side of them have been having a few issues as well. She may rant and look wild, but she's elderly and, well, she's a woman; she ain't going to cause you actual physical harm. Probably.
I’ve tried to explain but she just rants.
She does appear to be quite ‘physical’ though, which is a concern.0 -
As it stands what law do you think has been broken?Jeepers_Creepers said:Cool, so when Whiterose puts up their ladder and drills numerous holes in another person's house wall, there's now't they can do.Fab.There you go, WR - what's you waiting for?
The police are not there to deal with the neighbours lack of maintenance on their home.0 -
I don't think anyone is suggesting the police should be called? The original suggestion was to involve a community support officer, if willing, in line with his role here
Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) - College of Policing
to try and mediate and prevent the neighbour causing a possible breach of the peace over a minor repair issue which the OP would like to carry out.1 -
And you're seriously suggesting this is a good use of tax payers money?mrschaucer said:I don't think anyone is suggesting the police should be called? The original suggestion was to involve a community support officer, if willing, in line with his role here

The PCSOs are paid the same whether you contact them or not.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
OP is seeking suggestions as to how to deal with a problem. If you have nothing useful to add it's probably best not to be snarky to those who try.DB1904 said:

I don't see why you think it's a policing matter, nothing snarky about that. There is no suggestion of a crime or ASB taking place.mrschaucer said:
