Just out of interest, how does the council know which descriptor you got? Are they able to access your actual DWP detailed report?
Didn't realise that the rules had changed, last time they just sent the badge.

Didn't realise that the rules had changed, last time they just sent the badge. When the new rules came out in England in 2019 for following and planning a journey for the BB it was always descriptor E that automatically qualified a person and no other descriptor. For the moving around part it's always been 8 points or more. See link. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/blue-badge-can-i-get-one/can-i-get-a-blue-badgeThe only way your local council will know where the points were scored was if you sent a copy of your PIP award (which is needed as proof of automatically qualifying anyway) they don't have any access to any details from DWP for this.Seems like last time he was just lucky that they awarded the BB without automatically qualifying.

But if they receive the details of the PIP assessment & it does not meet their criteria they might not renew.Life in the slow lane0 -

Here's the government guidance for Blue Badges https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-blue-badge-scheme-local-authority-guidance-england/blue-badge#determining-the-eligibility-of-individual-applicants
I know councils have varying automatic eligibility rules for bus passes, but for Blue Badges it appears the only discretion is in the 'subject to assessment' category, what they feel meets the threshold for "very considerable difficulty whilst walking".1 -

But if they receive the details of the PIP assessment & it does not meet their criteria they might not renew.DWP do not contact any Local councils regarding any BB entitlement. DWP do not have any rules for any BB because a local council isn't anything to do with DWP. The automatic entitlement is standard across all councils in England, as previously advised. Outside of that then they have their own rules.I've had a BB since 2013 from automatic entitlement and lived in England the whole time and the rules have never changed. They added the following and planning a journey rules in 2019.1 -

You apply online here. https://www.gov.uk/apply-blue-badge then you will need to send your PIP award decision letter in as proof that you automatically qualify. Not sure why you thought an application for a BB is started as part of the PIP process because they are 2 completely different things.

If the all of the entire decision letter was sent then it shows a breakdown of where exactly the points where scored and this is how they know he didn't score them in the correct descriptor.
