I have seen it is very easy to remove the ethanol
2a? Built during the time Cleveland Discol ("E25") was on the market...

    I have a 42yo one, 2.25 s3.

I don't bother to remove ethanol, because there's simply no need.

Nor do I bother with lead-replacement goop.

Surely if you don't use lead-replacement additives the valves etc get burnt out?

The valves themselves don't burn. The seats are cut directly into the cast iron head. The lead put a protective coating on them.

The valve seats MIGHT wear and recess. Or they might not.

If they do, what's the fix? Fit steel valve seats.
How do you prevent it? Fit steel valve seats.

Or you could just use goop indefinitely, and end up spending more than the cost of steel valve seats, not to mention the sheer ballache of petrol-station-homeopathy.

Leave it in the tank for a couple of months, it will separate itself :).
A bit of moisture from the humid air will speed it up.

I suppose if you want to do it quicker you could add a cup of water and shake for a while, then leave it to settle out
Tip: add a few drops of food colouring or ink to the water first so the layers are easier to see ;)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Adrian, re my old car. It was driven 40,000miles locally and given a full service once a year.
MOT excellent, interior excellent - until recently. Bought for £300 when I needed a car to look for a new car but it gets me where I need so have kept it.
The light lenses are glass so don't go opaque and I have a sunroof which I love.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

  • I did see something, whether true or not, that the super duper go faster unleaded petrols will continue at 5% plants for a few years.
Added cost but something as a temporary stopgap?

Esso is the only one that states its super duper is zero ethanol- even though it has to be labelled as E5. I use it now I have fuel sitting in the tank for months to separate out rather than using a tankfull a fortnight.

According to the You Tube videos (of which there are loads) they add water sometimes with a bit of food colour leave to stand for 24 hours then drain the water and cr*p ethanol from the bottom.

    Yes I did.
I still don't see why anyone would go thru the rigmarole of "washing" fuel with water and then decanting the alcohol/water mix. The theory is straightforward but the practicalities outweigh the so called problem. If E10 fuel is a problem then switch to Super 98 as earlier poster said.
