If you have been unable to secure alternative accommodation before expiry of the Notice to Vacate, you should still be in SFA and continue to seek a place to move to. You will be classed as an Irregular Occupant and charged a new rate that is based on local council rents, council tax and water/sewage rates and, whilst this is not full ‘market rate’, it may be considerably higher than your current SFA charges. These figures are individually calculated and issued in plenty of time for you to apply for housing benefit if applicable.

- Taking a long time to book a survey would be bad
- Booking a survey promptly but then finding the earliest date possible is two months away is just a sign of a busy market

It sounds like the vendor is nowhere near buying their next house. If they haven't booked a survey yet I doubt they have booked searches either.
8 weeks to completion is a tight timeline especially at the moment. If you wanted to complete in that timeframe you really needed to find someone who was chain free.
If you are in a chain, your vendor is also at the mercy of the their vendor.
I cannot see how you are going to get exchange in the next few weeks. Unless the vendor is prepared to move into rented accomodation?
You might have to look at moving into rented for a few months.0
