Refund + compensation for nightmare hotel

  • I occasionally use a bus service that operates in a different part of the country to where I live.  The school holiday timetable is significantly different to the term time one.  The operator lists the year's school holiday dates in a footnote.  A common sense approach which avoids misunderstandings.

It would be easy enough for the hotel to do the same thing (or provide a link to the relevant page on the Blackpool Council website, assuming those are the dates that they are following).

it would also be easy enough for anyone booking with entertainment in school holiday as a requirement to phone and confirm it will be available when they intend to stay.

But the OP seems to think that everybody else's school holidays are the same as his  children's school.

Blimey, I think people are going a bit hard on the OP here. If you advertise "school holiday" specials as a hotel then you have to expect that there will be different school holiday weeks, surely. The argument that they go by "local holidays" doesn't hold as it's A HOTEL, folks. They should be specific on the dates they are offering the entertainment or risk confusing customers.

A broken toilet is completely unacceptable regardless of the room rate. That is a basic requirement. The rundown tattiness is by the by - but if you pay for a hotel room, with or without children, and your toilet doesn't work properly, that's just not OK.

OP.. I think you need to wait for the chargeback process to complete. If it goes against you then you could seek further redress through small claims.

If you take it to its natural conclusion... how many places have you seen advertise "local weekend" specials given the weekend is Friday/Saturday in some places rather than Saturday/Sunday?

You'd assume the hotel is trying to cut down on marketing costs by not having to update its websites or graphics etc each year or each time the holidays change.

A 2 star hotel in Blackpool is never going to be great.
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Many Scottish people go to Blackpool. So maybe they refer to Scottish holidays...

Common sense would dictate asking what dates they are referring too. As I bet there are not that many weeks where one area or another does not have a school holiday.

Natural conclusion? A weekend is pretty discrete. Sat or Sun. School holidays vary across the country and often by individual school. It's not a logical comparison. The hotel should have set clear dates. Simples.

Fri/Sat weekends? I like the suggestion that tourists from the Middle East are flocking to a 2 star hotel in Blackpool...

No its not, work for an Israeli company and you'll find your working week is Sunday-Thursday and Friday and Saturday are your weekend @Lavendyr

Not proposing that a 2 star hotel in Blackpool is the first destination of choice for international tourists but having been to Blackpool they do allow them in and their kids need entertainment/childcare too.

That might be your working week but that doesn't change the broad definition of the weekend. My working week is Tues-Sat but I don't think Monday is part of the weekend!
