Selling something for far more than expected

Whilst clearing out my son's room, we came across a couple of Gameboy Advance games with the instruction booklets so I decided to try my luck on Ebay.

Anyway they've all been sold but one of them has gone for alot more than I was expecting - it's sold for £16!!!!! It's a pokemon game (the emerald version) with only the instruction booklet.

The buyer has already paid - so should I count my lucky stars (hubby wanted to just throw them out!) or should I be wary of some scam????

Some of the old GA games do command high premiums, so well done.

Last week though I had a similar experience. Listed a few odds and ends and looking at ebay I was expecting £15-£20 max on each, ended up with 3 items over the £34 mark and had to pay extra and send the stuff special delivery. I have never seen such prices, it was as though people wanted stuff at any cost.

Also, all the items had feedback left the very next day..so within 48 hours of auction ending I had shipped goods and received positive feedback for the lot, very unusual.

Old games can easily go for decent amounts of money. In particular, games such as GBA / NES / SNES games that came in easily damageable cardboard boxes can often fetch reasonable amounts if they still have the original box and instructions in good condition

ive done about 300 deals on ebay, and i reckon about 30 of them come under the category of higher prices than i was expecting.
the ones i remember were, the SH suite that got 200 quid, the book that got 14 quid, the broken camera that got 20 quid.
all my old slr camera lens,s got more money than i was expecting. (considering they were in poor condition).

i sold a used electrical item last week for 17 quid inc PP. a new one would cost 19.99 at argos!
    Get some gorm.
  • I managed to sell a SNES game for £90. I only paid £20 for it.

Realised it was quite a rare game.

I once put some books on for £4.99 hoping I may get £25 - they sold for £160 - the guy was delighted with them too.

A fisher price airport that I thought may go for a fiver went for £70 and I had some weebles which went for about £160 too!

People will pay what they think it's worth at the time. Also December seems to be the season for spending on Ebay...just be happy with your sale.

Pokemon emerald is actually really difficult to get hold of - a couple of months ago it took me weeks to find one.

Congratulations! Its nice when that happens and I wouldn't think it was a scam as there will always be people who really want what you don't want.

I once sold a pair of converse baseball boots to a guy in the USA who paid £107 for them and I had bought them for only £7 and didn't think they were worth very much. I was really surprised and worried if it was a scam but he just happened to be a collector and liked the shoes I was selling :)

I once sold a UPVC front door for over £250.00!!! It was replaced when an extension was put on a relatives house, so I thought I'd try my luck for them. It was over 5 years old but in good nick. There were offered £75 by the builder. Apparently the size was really unusual so when a bidding war started I was really surprised. The winning bidder travelled 200 miles for it too!!
He was delighted because he had been quoted over £350.00 for a new one..
