Car Stolen, spare key lost, insurance won’t oh out

When the car was stolen on the Monday it was involved in an accident with a parked car and left somewhere a few hours later. The police notified us 4 days later on the Thursday that it had been found and gave us the address and told us it would be taken to the local pound. When they went to collect it it was gone.
we lost the key and didn’t report lost, to be honest because we never thought it would be stolen.0 -
When and where did you lose it or think you lost if its one of those where it just vanished 9 months ago type scenarios?vfalco said:we lost the key and didn’t report lost, to be honest because we never thought it would be stolen.
You need to ask your insurers exactly which clause of the policy they are relying on to avoid the claim. It would be useful to see the terms of that clause.
Ultimately whatever it says etc your route is to log a complaint on their decision and escalate to the Financial Ombudsman if you are unhappy with their response or they do not give a response within 8 weeks (whichever is sooner)2 -
When did you lose the key? Were there any circs around it e.g. went missing after party?
do you understand that the insurer sees an unreported lost key as a problem?
How do they know your claim isn’t fraudulent (I don’t think it is just seeing it from their point of view).1 -
Of course I see from their point of you.
We think the key was lost during refurbishment at home0 -
Which was over 3 years ago0

You going to find it difficult for the insurer to not reject the claim, you should have logged the stolen key and at the very least got the car lock changedvfalco said:Which was over 3 years ago"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

We are finding it very hard to prove our case.0

Which insurers are you thinking of? Looking at a few like DL and Aviva there is no direct clause that would state losing keys 3 years before an incident would invalidate theft cover. Only if the insurer can reasonably prove that the key was used in the theft.csgohan4 said:
