Id tell them you re happy to send a photo of it destroyed when they are ready to dispatch its replacement it for delivery - therefore you get use of the unsightly item and are only without it for a day or two.

It is a bit odd to ask for photos of it destroyed before they order the replacement.
Nothing said about ordering a replacement.

They however want me to cut up the hot tub and post pictures of it before they will send another,

    What about the entire sentence?

"They however want me to cut up the hot tub and post pictures of it before they will send another, which could be days or weeks depending on stock. "

But is that the company's words or the OP'S  words?

We can only go on the information the OP provides...in its entirety.

I've seen similar policies before (can't remember who for) - makes sense given the reasons stated above.

    Agreed.
What a bizarre thing to ask the customer to do.
After they have received the replacement product yes but before ??
Said customer could end up looking like a right chump.

If they ask them to do it after then they might decide not to do it at all so that's why they ask to do it before a replacement is sent.

Just like if your returning an item for a replacement you send the item back first then when they receive it back they send out the replacement. So this situation is not much different by asking them to destroy it first.

As there stock shows zero of this item Im a bit concerned Ill have to wait weeks/months to get another. Imagine if you bought a car and two weeks later the paintwork went and peeled off and they to asked you to burn your car send a video and then they replace it

chopping up a hot tub may be feasible if you are used to handling a circular saw or whatever, but what if the sharpest implement you have is a potato peeler?
