UPDATE - Requirement to provide Details of Driver
Comments
-
my car was leaving my drive as I was driving to work, I had to google that place. I will start thinking very carefully how I intend to prove I wasn't there, hopefully the trouble maker will do the same how on earth they going to prove I was there.0
-
You don't have to prove you were not there. The prosecution has to prove that you were. They also have to prove that you committed whatever offence is alleged (which you haven't told us about).0
-
oh sorry: Dangerous careless and inconsiderate driving section 2,3 act 1988, fail to stop and report accident section 170(4) act 1988
that's the reason I want to ask my insurer for help, nothing of this has happened to me and my car0 -
Well reply to the request for driver's details along the lines suggested (i.e. that you were not at the location) and see what happens next. At this stage you are simply being asked to say who was driving. If you have any evidence to show you were not at the location make sure you keep hold of it.1

Don't assume it is someone out to cause trouble. As others have said it could be a simple plate misread.2

True, but if there is photo "evidence" or an eye witness that suggest a certain make of car with a certain registration that may be deemed to be adequate proof.TooManyPoints said:You don't have to prove you were not there. Anything you have that can PROVE it wasn't you/your car will make this go away much faster
Just saying "It wasn't me, I was 5 miles away" likely won't do the trick1 -
Best check with your insurer that they haven't had a claim come through to them though and they haven't informed you yet1
-
As above, it's almost certainly a misread reg. no. Since it seems to relate to a collision, you must tell your insurer ASAP.

What time did you arrive at work?
How long would it take you to get from the alleged scene to your work?
Could you get from the scene to work in that timescale?
If not , then you couldn't have been there.

You could ask for a description of the car and driver of the alleged offence. If you are a tall female supermodel driving a purple vw van and the individual was a short fat chap in a pink bmw then the issue is easy to resolve.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
