HSBC accounts seem impossible to get. Just applied for one but failed the credit check! I earn three times the basic requirements and have a 999 Experian credit score. Customer service India just refuse to discuss reasons and when I say you have received fraudulent information the phone always goes dead soon afterwards! Why can they be honest with their reasons for rejection?
Last time I called HSBC (January) it was U.K. based.. fairly certain it still is

Nope it has an Indian call centre but luck of the draw means you may get UK and i believe dependant on what account you hold

They receive the information on your credit file, have you checked all 3 agencies to ensure there is nothing untoward on there? They didn't receive anything fraudulent however, the score is never seen by them and they will never tell you why they rejected you as that could lead to their application system being gamed by people who shouldn't qualify

If they have information that isn’t true from a credit agency then it is fraud as the information is incorrect. As the information is personally identifiable to me then a freedom of information request means they have to disclose so that is my next email

That isn't fraud, it may be there is a mistake on the file which they can correct, but fraud is a specific crime under UK law (defined below).

I suggest you also read up on data laws, Freedom of Information requests are only applicable to public bodies. You can submit a SAR under GDPR for a copy of all your records that they hold but there is no point, you can check your file for free immediately on the 3 CRA reports and see if there is anything wrong. You could also SAR CIFAS on the off chance but in all likelihood, you didn't get an HSBC account as they don't want you as a customer for whatever reason that they will never tell you.

making a dishonest representation for your own advantage or to cause another a lossdishonestly neglecting to disclose information when you had a duty to do so. ... conspiring with others to commit fraud by agreeing to do something which causes loss to a third party.

  • The Experian score was obtained because the HSBC customer services team recommend it was obtained so they could see it! So either WillPS is wrong or HSBC. Customer services are just fobbing people off! The evidence for fraudulent material being received is based on not failing every other credit check and bank account application and yes I have done multiple of both recently.

Which card did you apply for? The target profiles will be different for different products.

To clarify you are accusing someone of fraud, although it's not clear whom you are accusing of fraud, based upon absolutely no evidence whatsoever other than your interpretation of what HSBC might have or might not have done.
Have you ever thought it may simply be that your recent multiple credit applications makes you look desperate for credit, maybe that's the reason for the rejection.

Whatever happens you will never know, HSBC don't have to have you as a customer and don't have to tell you why they don't want you as a customer.

They also check Equifax not just Experian. For whatever reason you were rejected they have no demand to accept your application.

best check all your reports in case something is afoot and if not just move on elsewhere

Customer services staff are trained to give simple answers as they don't know your level of knowledge. They say to check your credit score as that is something people can understand. They do not see your "score" and no decision on lending is based on that gimmick. Lenders take the data from your file and use it to score you using their internal systems, or for some smaller lenders, by buying a scoring system from the CRAs (but again that is not the score you see).

The fact you have applied for multiple products involving hard credit checks is most likely why you were rejected - it makes you look desperate and thus a higher risk if you keep applying for stuff so lenders are more likely to be hesitant to give you prime credit.

So..... yo can't get what you want so everybody else is to blame right?

Go and give your head a wobble, then when you have done that check your credit files and if you feel the information is incorrect, contact the CRA's and raise a query. Only then will you get somewhere.

After that remind yourself with what "fraud" means.

Having worked in Financial Services for a long time, I can assure you that HSBC do not, never have and never will use a mythical "credit score" number.
