Sports Direct - England Shirts over charged

Hi there, looking for advice on the below please.

Just bought two England shirts from Sports Direct for £49.99 each. When they arrived they both have a sale sticker on for £39.99.

In my view I’m owed £20. What do you think?

Nope, so long as you bought at the price advertised and charged correctly. You should have bought them before the hype of the tournament period, I believe they were only £39.99 each then.

If it were me and they sent me shirts with 'sale' stickers on them I'd not be pleased at all. It's a real slap in the face. Charging you one price and then sticking labels on them before sending them out, after having charged you £10 more for each one. What a cheek!

I'd definitely have to phone them and ask what they're playing at. If they didn't have sale stickers on it wouldn't seem quite as bad but for them to blatantly send you ones with them on, no.

Phone and tell them they've charged you more than they should have. If they won't refund you, then return them as pbartlett suggests and never darken their doorstep again. I think they are being really cheeky!

You think they're sticking them on and then sending them out? I'd bet they'd been previously stickered as sale stock in a store, sent back to central distribution and then to OP. Time cost to asking staff in store to de-sticker everything, so they don't bother.

It's outrageously sloppy customer service. It's almost guaranteed to infuriate their customers, who might be so annoyed that they vow never to buy anything from them again.

But no laws have been broken, and there are no grounds for a refund of the £20.

Maybe go to one of their stores and see if they have any in the sale for £39.99. If they do buy them, and return the £49.99 ones (presumably by post) for a refund.

It'll cost them to return the items by post as they won't refund the postage for orders that aren't faulty.

That makes no sense at all... they won't refund returns postage costs so it will "cost them"? Practically it will cost them to process the return but that is independent of if they refund the return shipping costs or not.

If they came with tags saying £59.99 would you owe them £20?
Morally this is the correct response however this forum isnt about morals and whilst legally they have done nothing wrong legally you have the right to cancel the order you made online within 14 days of receipt of the goods. As such its worth double checking what the current online price is and/or your local store and assuming you can secure the lower price (factoring in return costs) have a conversation with them about if they can discount else you'll reject the goods and reorder at the lower price.
