Pre-paid reward mastercard expired - can I do anything?

I know its a long shot, but worth a try.

I have trwo Sky Edenred Pre-paid Mastercard reward cards from recommending friends.  The expiry date on them is Feb 21.  I have used cards like this before and have had renewal cards through the post.  It seems that once these cards have expired then any money on them has been lost.

I have tried to call the number but it diverts me to customer service who say their office is closed and try again tomorrow.

I know its my fault for not spending before the expiry date,  but was saving them for a special occasion.  Has anyone had any luck in renewing these?

yes the t&c are pretty explicit in this - surprised they weren't all extended because of covid lockdowns etc but they weren't

I presume you had no luck via Sky or Edenred?

Many years ago I bought something, think it was a DSLR and it came with a £50 off credit if a sent a copy of the receipt to somewhere, I mislaid the card but 9 months later I found it and went to buy something and there was only £23 left on the card. I didn't look at the T & C's as they were far too small to read but when I downloaded a copy of the T & C's it said after 6 months of no use they would take so much off per month as a fee for non usage. I emailed the company who I got the card from and never got a reply.
Someone please tell me what money is

Never ever save gift card or other pre-paid cards for a special occasion, just get them spent.

No harm in holding on to them waiting for the right time to spend.... BUT you must make a big big big note somewhere with the expiry date in red block capitals. I used to get loads of these from work and used sticky notes on my PC to list them with expiry dates etc. Used most on places like Screwfix or Wickes when I needed something doing around the house. Most were for £20-£50 but did have one for £200 which we recently used for a short break via Airbnb voucher.

None at all, Sky said it was all via external company and Edenred were not interested.

That's how they make (some of) their money I'm afraid - customers who don't cash in their vouchers. You will have to bite the bullet on this one and make sure you dont make the same mistake again.

I once saved a rewards card for 9 months then when I went to use it 50% of the £50 on the card had being wiped out by monthly charges.

They can keep your money because its in their terms and conditions which you (or the purchaser) accept when the card or voucher is bought and paid for. Many are for only six months to a year but Amazon allow up to ten years

As Kassy64 above says, that's how they make some of their money by the fact that people don't read the T&C's. or forget that they've go them.

Its exactly the same with stuff like Red Letter Days and their ilk - they all have an expiry date and you lose the value if you don't redeem or spend them before they expire.

The only answer is to either not buy vouchers etc or spend them as soon as you get them. BTW you'll also lose any value if the voucher company goes bust.
