July 2021 Grocery Challenge

I would love to have a go at growing a grape vine but I haven't the room at present, one day perhaps....
No money spent today and I had beans on toast at dinner and an aubergine bake type of thing for tea, it was surprisingly tasty, I had potatoes, kale and peas with it (last two from lottie). I'm having the same tomorrow as I only had half of it.
So a good day for me.

£113.22 spent over the last couple of days, at the butcher, the supermarket and the market. That's bought us nearly everything we'll need for the week, and somehow I do seem to be on target this month, although there's still the matter of the missing receipt!Angie - GC Nov 25 £340.86/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4

Another no spend day, I can't believe that I'm spending nothing, it just goes to show how much I have in. Finished my aubergine bake then had fruit and ice cream tonight and egg salad this lunch time. Have to try a courgette bake dish for the weekend as they seem to be growing like weeds. Making a meal plan for the next 4 days with what I have in so feel positive about lasting until pay day!

I thought about getting an allotment, but to be honest, I know I wouldn't stick with it and it would get neglected after the novelty wore off. However, I'm growing peas, perpetual spinach, leeks and rocket in a raised bed and squash, courgettes, chillies, tomatoes and herbs in various containers in my (long and thin) garden. Most of it has survived and the greenhouse-less tomatoes are ripening nicely!goldfinches said:@Suffolk_lass - thankyou for your suggestions. I'm having a bit of a think about it at the moment as I'm really wondering if it would be better for me to take up an allotment and grow my own especially since life clearly won't be back to normal until at least this time next year.
I'm never going to be self-sufficient, but it's nice to use spinach in something and think 'I grew that'!2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

I don't know if anyone uses Waitr0se but I have a code for £20 off a £40 shop. I used CSCBRDBEJA21 at checkout on a click and collect online. I don't know if it works for everyone or for certain products (eg alcohol) but it just worked for me.7

I've decided that as I'm still fairly well within my budget, I'm going to do a bulk order of flour, which will see us well into the autumn. One of the things that's been taking me over-budget in the last few months is the irresistible bread our local artisan baker produces; I'm perfectly capable of making it too! Not quite as excellent, but I'm not helpless, I've just got out of the habit. I know my insides definitely prefer properly-prepared sourdough & other slow-risen breads; supermarket loaves just make me blow up like a balloon. Will report back when I've done the deed.Angie - GC Nov 25 £340.86/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4

Hi everyone
No money spent today so all good so far. I don't have to buy anything in the next couple of days as far as I can see, but you never know.
Meals are planned and I have enough milk, I can manage without bread as I have a packet of crispbreads unopened, and I will try for it to stay that way!

Hi Pip. We are retiring love. We've spent 8 years or so working hard and saving, we will be buying a narrowboat and living our dream. Travelling 2000 miles of the canals. We will soon be giving 28 days notice on the people that live with us. I'm going to miss my lady, its time to enjoy our life now. We done 10 years of fostering children then 4 years of looking after vulnerable people. Policies and rules are changing. More work for us. Its all very exciting for us but at times scary. Just want to get on and do it now. XPipneyJane said:
@Pixiehouse55, congratulations on the sale. Is your new home much smaller? Will the people you support go with you or are they moving elsewhere? (I’m just being curious. I have always been in awe at your kindness and patience with them.)Pixiehouse55 said:Hi everyone. Sorry food shop gone to pot!! We've sold our house and so now busy selling everything we can't take with us. Spends so far is £350!!!
I am still trying but this hot weather our people are snacking more and drinking more. I'm on and off and busy right now. Will still try to keep on track with August budget. Happy shopping to you all xx
