Fibre questions

Options
Hi, City fibre have recently installed fibre down my street, little black covers sit outside everyones front gardens now. My broadband contract ends in 2 months, I only get 11mbps so would love to move to fibre, but I'm not sure if there's anything to watch out for specifically to fibre.. will I have to pay someone to come and dig up the front garden for a new cable laying, will they drill a hole in my wall for another socket, will my regular landline phone still work?
Thanks so much for any help! Mark

  • The cable will be run under the surface, so something will have to be disturbed, it will be part of the normal installation fee, if applicable.

However, if it's too difficult they may not be able to install the service.

Yes, most installations require a hole to be drilled in the wall for the fibre cable.

That cable is then terminated in a new socket, that is then connected to a modem and that to a router.

As for the landline, that depends on the provider, for instance TalkTalk Future Fibre is a Data Only service so you lose your landline, they plan to add a VoIP service in the future, no dates confirmed.
