The property was in Bournemouth where the landlord owns a number of rental properties. This was booked at the back end of 2019 to take place in April 2020. For obvious reasons this could not go ahead in 2020 and we pushed the date back to August thinking that by then everything would be back to normal. As August approached and we knew that coronavirus was not going anywhere anytime soon, we pushed the booking back too April of this year 2021.

In February of this year when Boris made his road map announcement, it was made clear that we would not be able to use the rental property in April due to coronavirus restrictions. At this stage I asked for my money back as my partner and I did not want to postpone our wedding for the 4th time to which the whole problem started…

Are you sure? Because from 12th April staying in self contained accommodation was allowed and you were allowed to travel.
This is the crux of the matter - the accommodation is still available - just not for the stag party of 15 unrelated people.

The end result is likely to be resolved via contract (and probably not in the OP's favour unless they had a specific clause built into the contract) or subsequently via court

The booking was for the start of April so no it was not possible.

I would take him to court but i cant get an address for him anywhere. If i send it to the address of the property will that suffice?
But the property was available for a ‘legal’ combination of people and this will continue to be your issue. Unless you’d named the attendees and their relationship to each other and had this included in the booking T&C’s you don’t seem to have a leg to stand on
  • Apologies for my lack on understanding but i have not obtained info off the land registry and have proof that he owns the property we were due to stay at. So i trust i can serve the letter before action to that address?
  • *i have now obtained

No thats incorrect, from the 12th April you were allowed. Our booking was before the 12th. It was against the law, we were not allowed to visit whether it was me alone or with 15 others
