I want to video record my old vinyl record collection, but I want to record the audio from a separate stereo line in. Has anyone ever done this before and if so how do I go about it?

just to be clear - are you saying the video will consist of the record on the turntable going round and round, but the audio will be line-in from another source?1

Audacity is good

Not sure I really understand what you're trying to do?
But, simple enough. Take the line out from the record deck to a PC and capture it using any number of programs. Audacity as above is a good one.
Clearly you don't need to sync the video to the audio!! In fact you could use the same video capture for all the tracks. . .

Those will be dull videos.
Easiest is probably to capture sound and video independently and then use software to replace whatever sound the camera caught whilst recording with the sound you've gotten separately.
Any other solution is going to depend on the capability of your kit... the output of a turntable is much lower than the output of a mic (both before the preamp) and so its highly unlikely to work simply plugging the turntable into the mic port. If the camera has a line in port as well as a mic then you could take a feed from the phonostage/pre amp into the camera (or from your hifi if it has one and your using a built in photostage)0 -
Nope. I want to record a video of a record going round but I want the audio in stereo. So the question is how do I record stereo from RCA outs into my phone via USB C. Maybe some sort of mixer?{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0

Maybe some sort of mixer? You can record the video on your phone. As for the other bit, you probably want something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077TKF51T - but its not clear which way round this goes - from RCA to USB-c or USB to RCA. Need to check that. But whether the phone would record that at the same time as the video... probably not, unless there's an app in an App Store somewhere. If no app, you might have to stick them together with a video editing program. Some phones can let you do this, but if you have access to a PC the entire thing is made easier.0

Its like pulling teeth....
What "phone"? I'll guess its some Android thing
Which RCA outputs? From the turntable or something else? If turntable, does it have a phonostage built in?
Most devices have a DAC so you can connect USBC directly to a stereo but dont think a ADC is so common on phones. Any reason why not to record the sound on a computer instead where you can easily use an RCA to Headphone jack and record stereo (assuming you've got a line level output) or various USB toys for capturing vinyl if you dont have a phonostage2 -
Hmmm, a general outline of what is desired only. There are various solutions but more info is required to come up with the best solution.Currently just about all we have is record video of a record going round and record the audio in stereo via USBc.What do you have to record the video, phone, tablet, camera? What do you have in terms of a turntable and what outputs does it have (rca/phono is no where near specific enough) is it preamplified equalised (or just direct from a cartridge -if so what type?) What output level.Various bits of kit out there to do the job from very budget low quallty, good domestic or pro/semipro or audiophile and correspondingly expensive. What are you going to do with the recording, that might drive budget, and have you considered performer's rights and recording their records illegally (short excerpts can be ok or for some educational use but 'public performance' even asbackground music needs to be licensed).Where do you need the end result rendered to...own dvd, just on pc, youtube, SoundCloud and do you need to edit or add other sounds........so much to consider, some might be irrelevent , but do tell us what weneed to know to help!2

If it were me I would record the video of the record going round and round in silence and upload it to my laptop as an mp4 file.
I would then record the audio on my laptop using the line-in socket.
I would then MUX the two together using FFMPEG:
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i audio.m4a -c copy output.mkv
If you want the video in .mp4 format again I would convert:ffmpeg -i video.mkv -codec copy video.mp40
