    Hi,

the IHD is a novelty to start with, you will soon lose interest and throw it in a drawer.

As already said it normally gets added at start of each day.

Just set up a wee spreadsheet, take monthly readings and update, or weekly, daily, ever half hour if that is your want, keep your eye on things.
The wife has already started on the "you'll have turn off the router at night"!
profiled usage will allow the industry to better match supply with demand.
'profiled usage will allow the industry to better match demand with supply.'
That means Time of Use tariffs, Load Limiting and Load Shedding, all of which have been quietly built in to your smart meter, they just forgot to publicise all these wonderful benefits.
AKA Demand Side Response, AKA Rationing.
    FTFY !
I did consider this before accepting change, but due to personal circumstances, I decided to accept it !

You may have some interesting choices at times in the future.
Charge the EV, OR boil the kettle, OR use the tumble dryer, OR have a hot meal, OR have the ASHP heating on?
    Faites vos jeux !

I could also get kidnapped by aliens tomorrow...doesn't mean its likely to heppen!
  • As a pretty low user - I find the 16.98 and 19.21 p per day virtually doubles my bill
I know its too late for you now, but a few weeks ago i signed up for Eon Next's cheapest tariff via Uswitch. Both gas and electric have a daily standard charge of 7.35p with unit rates of 3.67p/kwh and 20p'kwh respectively. Almost perfect for me, considering my energy use is quite low - gas 5000 kwh pa and electric 2000 kwh pa.

Aliens haven't been shown to exist, but there's no doubt whatsoever about the Time of Use, Load Limiting and Load Shedding functionality built in to smart meters.

And what makes you think UK energy suppliers will implement all of them? You are aware that energy providers worldwide are free to choose which smart meter features they switch on/off?
It’s a bit like saying just because many UK cars are technically capable of doing 100+ mph then we should all look forward to driving 150 mph legally on uk roads in future. You need to stop with the scaremongering Gerry as none of your ‘predictions’wrt smart meters have come true in the UK yet.
  • How long should it take to get my online octopus account updated to show the new meters?

Provided your supplier has set the correct tariff information in each of your meters, this information will be passed to your IHD via the Home Area Network established by the comms hub that sits above your electricity meter. The daily cost will include the standing charges for gas and electricity. This normally appears at midnight each day.

That said, the cost for gas may be slightly different from what appears on the statement as a fixed calorific value is used whereas your actual gas cost will be based on the actual average CV.
Surely it is not beyond the capability of this technology to add the standing charges hourly which would probably work out at about 1p per hour ….. this would do away with the early morning shock of 51p charges for 0.824 kWh ……….

It isn't an hourly charge though so it isn't accurate to show it as such.
The reality is that it is a one-off daily charge as it is correctly being shown on the IHD,
