IPad screen cracked brought in Currys

Please can anyone help with advice.  I have a iPad Air 3rd gen.  the other night I was using in and a crack appeared on the screen as I pressed the home button. I took it to Apple who agree it’s a stress break and if I had brought from them they would of replaced it.   They then said but because I brought it from Currys I will have to fight with them.   I headed to curry’s they said it was accidental damage agfter I argued that it wasn’t they said take back to Apple.  I said no you have to sort but they would not budge as said out of warranty I brought it October 2019.   What is my next step complain on the phone email or Twitter

Pedant alert - It’s bought not brought

It’s 18 months old - the onus on you to prove the fault was inherent.

Apple said they would have replaced it - but did they say that would have been free of charge ?

I can almost guarantee you that Apple would not have replaced it free of charge. They seem to say this to every customer that comes in with a faulty apple device that has been purchased elsewhere. Funnily enough, it's a totally different story for those that did buy their device direct from Apple and goto them with a faulty product!
As noted above, you'll need to get an independant report stating the screen cracked due to a fault that was there at the time of purchase, but has now only just surfaced. After 18 months use, I think you're going to struggle with this.

Or ask Apple for the report >>took it to Apple who agree it’s a stress break .
Warranty is not your consumer rights  .But CR route you still require independent report .

Apple do seem to have a habit of 'bigging themselves up' when things like this happen - I took my nearly new iPhone XS to them, and despite being bought from them they insisted on repairing it (which took 3 weeks due to lack of parts) rather than replacing which their live chat said would happen.
I have to say, a crack appearing from nowhere is quite unlikely so you'll likely need a detailed report stating this wasn't accidental damage; the only way this is likely to happen is a swollen battery exerting pressure on the back of the screen.
Unfortunately you'll have a struggle convincing them that you're not one of the many who have broken their screen and are after a free replacement.
