    I suppose it depends on how much you're going to use it. The main brands of domestic printers specialise in small cheap 3-in-1s with expensive refills. Better for light users

    Brother and other business brands supply larger models with cheaper refills. Better for heavy users.

    Don't have to be expensive to buy the better printers and run them cheap even if a lowish user


    A4 340CW £60 bought June 2006 finally dies when a paper feed cog disintegrated 11+ years use 

    Replaced March 2018 by an A3  MFC-J6530DW £35(JL deal got lucky on timing)

    Cheap to run so far,  50 sheet doc feed comes in very handy to scan/archive.


    for very low use the HP instant ink used to be a good option still is for some.

    I can't see me changing from HP and their excellent 'instant ink' service.
    Takes all the hassle out of replacing ink, cartridges magically appear in the post when the printer tells them it's low, along with free postage bags to return the empties.
    All for £1.99 a month.
