Can writers work from anywhere now. Do you not need WiFi or broadband, like the rest of us?

What I mean is, I don't have an office I need to go to. I use my mobile as a hotspot for WiFi and find it works well.

Just on the wifi point, there are plenty of unlimited data plans for not very much  my DS1 has 160GB SIM for £20pm and even that wasn't the cheapest, just suited us as we all leach off his data.  I used to hotspot in from my phone when at the office sometimes as it was better than the corporate network on an off day

good luck - I saw somewhere that you can get house sitting gigs, that maybe a either very cheap or you actually get paid.  If you are happy to move around a little / be unsettled that could help you save up a bit more
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Thank you! Yes, I have an unlimited data plan on my phone currently and live in a rural area. It works well for the internet, Netflix etc and hopefully all I'll need. I have actually done house sitting in the past, and still do to an extent. Slightly went off it though as my intention for 2020 was to house/ pet sit for the year to save money on rent, and Covid put an end to that! It's a great way to explore new areas though.

OK, a few random queries. Not so much needing answers on here though.

What do you think of as being close to nature? The edge of a small town, or the end of a rough track?  Or within east travelling distance?

Do you drive/have a car? If not, given your other requirements maybe within a certain distance of public transport connections?

Does it have to be detached?

Do you want a garden, or outdoor space?

Are you able to get a mortgage? Would you consider buying a property with a small building that could be converted, splitting the title and off-loading the main house once you had permission? One friend built double garages alongside tiny properties and 5 years later attached them to the house and converted them (twice), so you could start very small.

Would you consider a commercial property, for example a shop with offices above, where you initially convert the offices into a flat for yourself? You might incorporate the shop later. Probably best looking at corner shop types rather than high street. Or redundant banks etc.

Do you have any building, or craft skills yourself, or amongst those on whom you might prevail?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

What do you think of as being close to nature? The edge of a small town, or the end of a rough track?  Or within east travelling distance? Rural - nothing more specific than that really. I'd just rather not live in a residential area or city. The edge of a small town or deep in the Scottish countryside (or somewhere in between!)

Do you drive/have a car? If not, given your other requirements maybe within a certain distance of public transport connections? Yes, I drive and have a car.

Does it have to be detached? Not necessarily, but it's definitely preferable.

Do you want a garden, or outdoor space? It would be nice but is far down on my list of requirements.

Are you able to get a mortgage?
Yes, I have a mortgage in principle as I have been on the property hunt for a while.

One friend built double garages alongside tiny properties and 5 years later attached them to the house and converted them (twice), so you could start very small. Yes, I really like this idea!

Probably best looking at corner shop types rather than high street. Or redundant banks etc. Could do, though it seems like it might involve a lot of extra expense!

Do you have any building, or craft skills yourself, or amongst those on whom you might prevail? I don't really have great DIY skills besides painting, but know people who may be able to help!
Thank you, please see my answers in bold above.

    Are you quite young?

This sounds a great thing to do for a year if you are 24.

At 44 it sounds like a recipe for loneliness :(.

I'm 36, so somewhere in between. Yes, you're right. I don't want to be too far from humanity and my friends.
