DIY attempt at cavity insulation with parcel packing polystyrene** beads. Probably helps with thermal insulation and hinders with fire safety. May or may not be treated with fire retardant. Unlikely to be compatible with building regulations.
** often called polystyrene beads but more likely to be polyurethane (shiny skin).
