Orbit Energy
I transferred to Orbit Energy in March 2021 because it offered a small price benefit, my account is in credit but this month I have been advised that my payments will increase. This wipes out the small price advantage that led me to Orbit. Is this normal practice for Orbit?

You've not been very specific. An increase in tariff or an increase in your direct debit? I assume you're giving regular meter readings. I assume you're on a variable rate tariff with orbit. There are other threads on the forums suggesting that orbit increase the rates of their tariffs quite regularly. Do a search and you will find the details. One example is:

I suggest you do a price comparison with which switch or citizens advice switching tool or MSE CEC and see if there is anything cheaper for you. Make sure you use actual usage figures and compare total cost (or even better unit rate and standing charge) to the new tariff you are on with orbit. Good luck.0 -
Welcome to the forum. If it's a variable tariff it can be increased at any time.If it's a fixed tariff, it suggests your original DD was unrealistic for your level of consumption and / or you haven't been sending monthly meter readings.0

ASFAIK Orbital has not increased its cheapest variable rate, although no doubt the time will come. Even if you are in credit over the period March-June it might justify increasing your direct debit because you are not building up a sufficient credit balance to cover extra electricity use over the coming winter.0
