Getting nowhere with EDF

My original payment plan was £46 per month which then jumped to £139 a month in April (£185 paid yet £350 outstanding).
I have submitted meter readings (not smart meter readings) to EDF but something does not seem right about this - you just reminded me: I can check my submissions to EDF.

Yes please give us those meter readings.
A £46 DD for an all electric property is ridiculous - that's the electric cost that many would pay for a gas heated property.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Manual meter reading start 0 on 02 Dec
Final manual meter reading end on 3416 on 06 May

Sounds pretty reasonable for an all electric property during a cold winter1

3416 units at say 15p/kWh = £512.40
Total = £570.17 inc VAT at 5%
(By way of illustration, £570 - amount paid of £185 = £385 still owed on the account)
You will need to redo your calculation by entering the correct standing charge and unit price. The above demonstrates that you were using more energy than your monthly DD payment was covering.1 -
So... it sounds like the final bill is correct, just that for whatever reason the DD did not reflect that properly to begin with.
I feel a little silly as maybe I misunderstood how / what smart meters are for - I guess I am a little non plussed as my usage was higher in March (heating on a couple on a couple days) as opposed to January (heating on most days with 2 weeks working from home), according to the EDF Energy Hub.
So... am I right in thinking that the EDF Energy Hub should not be used to monitor historic usage? Serious regretting getting a smart meter!0 -

A smart meter is just a meter that sends data to a supplier via a secure network. Bills should be accurate. The IHD/hub takes its data from the comms hub attached to your electricity meter. Irrespective of the tariff that has been set, the usage in kWhs over a given period shown in the IHD/hub will be 100% accurate but the cost will be incorrect if the tariff sent to the meter is incorrect. I struggle to see how you would have been better off with a dumb meter. The simple fact is that you have been using more electricity than you thought: this has nothing to do with the meter.1 -
The In Home Device (IHD) should not be relied on, as I said mine is now corrupted.
It did work fine until last November, but the day after it said I used over £2000 of electricity in one day, I had an online chat and they said a software update had caused issues that have yet to be rectified.
The EDF ENERGY HUB is a specific page in your online MyAccount and accurately reflects your usage and cost, it runs about 3 days in arrears.
It is very accurate and shows usage down to a specific hour.1 -
So the thing that got me to question what was going on in the first place... using data from the EDF Energy Hub, this is my consumption for the days I was away from the flat:
Fri 02 Apr 2021 18kWh £3.28 Out of flat at 0600, maybe some consumption in the morning for shower, kettle and tv
Sat 03 Apr 2021 14.5kWh £2.68 Away from flat
Sun 04 Apr 2021 15kWh £2.77 Away from flat
Mon 05 Apr 2021 16kWh £2.92 Returned 2200 this day, straight to bed
Is this typical for a flat that has nothing aside from the fridge/freezer, water heater and nothing else in use? The EDF Energy Hub reports that approx 1 kWh/day has been used since I moved out.

1 kWh/day with just perhaps the fridge/freezer ticking over sounds about right.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1
