This is how the installation looks. The distance from the bottom of the extractor to the top of the hole venting out through the wall is about 75cm. I'm not sure why the installer vented it so high up (there was no prior vent hole in the wall before they started work). There was/is a power socket about halfway up the wall, though, so maybe he just couldn't be bothered to move it?
So the comments above suggest that responsibility for this may lie with the kitchen supplier (who designed, specified and installed the whole lot)?
On the basis of that photo, the fault is the installer's. Sorry to say that if the rest of the kitchen has been installed as shoddily as that unit has been, you may have other problems to contend with.1 -
How high is it above the hob? Recommended is between 650 & 750 m/m
Never seen one mounted in a cupboard like that. Looks a right bodge job.

What does the installation manual say about minimum clearance to the hob?0 -

The diagrams in the installation manual show the extractor being fitted into a cupboard, so that's clearly the way it is intended for use.0 -
In which case, all you can do is await the report and hope that it says the unit is faulty. If I were a betting person, though, I'd say that a like-for-like replacement will behave exactly the same. 36cm is far too close to the hob and the way the ducting has been done is shoddy. You're going to need either a revised installation or a more powerful extractor unit. Or both.0
