Under right to work they will accept birth certificate.
Under verify identity, it wont. It insists on the photo ID or passport sized photot endorsed.
I have a nurse I could ask I know, but on the other hand she hadn't known me for 2 years, so if they found out.

On that list it says expired passports CAN. be accepted?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

For ID purposes that is only if it is within 6 months of expiry.

It says though you can use the ID you have used for the right to work section in the ID section.
    It is rather confusing.

I think the devil may be in the detail (wording)

Does it say can or will ?  (The document link no longer works)

There is nothing wrong with individual entities choosing to make their checks different or more "robust" (I don't think)

As @TBagpuss and I have said -- If the local policy states it MUST be current, then the person doing the checking may be unwilling or unable to ignore this instruction
  • I’m still waiting on the HR teams response, they are very slow, but they did say they were going to raise it with corporate HR.

Don't put your name on their radar for the wrong reasons.

Get your passport renewal done anyway. Don't wait - you will find you will need it in lots of other circumstances as well. If they do decide you need a current passport, by the time they get round to deciding ,you will have it.

Yeah I’ve already decided to do that too.

Don't waste any more time then:
    • Get yourself down to somewhere that has a passport photo machine (supermarkets often have them)
    • You will get some photos and also a code that can be used to send your photo to the passport office
    • Go to https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renew and renew your passport online
    • You will be given an address to send in your old passport.
    • Once they receive your old passport they will post out the new one.
    • Should be done in under a week
Really that quick? I was going to renew at the post office as they fill it in for you, take the new photos and send the old passport for you.
https://www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk/ suggests currently just under 13 days for a renewal. I did mine in April and it took 10 days (including weekends)
