They don't even need to go to that bank. They can pay in at most post offices too. Again - need your sort code and account number but there's envelopes to pop the cheque into to hand across the counter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Best way to do it is get a trusted friend or family into an HSBC branch with a cheque deposit machine.
You'll need to give your person your HSBC sort code and account number that you want it paid into. The friend fills out the paying in slip with your details and feeds it into the machine with the cheque. They'll be asked to key the details in too but other than that, it's simple and you won't get asked any questions. There's a receipt printed with the picture of the cheque and paying in slip.
The post office is the last place I would ever pay anything into - unless you like standing in a queue for ages behind someone posting a hundred parcels.

thank you all for advice, i have arranged with HMRC to send another cheque to a friend's address within the UK. The cheque will still be addressed to myself, so he can only deposit/cash it in my bank account.
i did ask them for this. They say, as the first mode of payment made by HMRC (in this matter) at the time was cheque hence they can only cancel and reissue another one and were unable to change the mode of payment. God knows what old school systems they have in place that doesn't allow for this basic functionality, in 2021.thegreenone said:Is there a reason why HMRC cannot pay the money straight into your UK bank account? My last few rebates from the 'HMRC Savings Scheme' have arrived in my account before I've received the letter telling me it's coming.0
