FWIW, I have just looked at a couple of hand sanitizer bottles of different brands. Both have expiry dates on them. So, yes, bottles do have expiry dates.
Yes, lots of things have expiry dates on them. But in this case, they're pretty meaningless.

I thought stuff like sun cream etc usually had an image of an open can and something like '12M' or '18M' indicating the effective date once it has been opened.

Very helpful! I recently looked all over a bottle of sunscreen to see if there was an expiry date -- nothing. I just looked and you're right, there's an un-explained "24M" in a little graphic that could be anything. I thought maybe it means the container is waterproof to 24 metres. Who knew?

    Today I learned something! :)

"Hand sanitiser" as in alcohol gel? Do they actually "expire" in any meaningful sense?
Highly alcoholic things don't really go off.
'Highly alcoholic things don't really go off'.

Great news, I should be around for a good few years yet then

We have a bottle with some gin in it.  It is nearly 30 years old.  It still smells like gin  :D

I have a bottle of meths that is going off - the plastic of the bottle is degrading.

    Hi Folks
I bought some hand sanitiser bottles over the weekend.  However, when I got home I realised that they were all out of date.
I shall be taking them back to the shop, but can I get some sort of compensation for being sold these out of date hand sanitisers?
    Thanks
As others have said, yes, you’ll be able to get all of the money back that you paid for them.
Of course, they’ll still work perfectly, so you may as well use them.

Yes they have expiry dates, although I very much doubt they do "expire" that much on the dates in question and wouldn't still be active for years to come, but that's not the point.

Return them for a refund, not sure why you think you need compensation though.
    Me neither.

Fuel costs / bus fares for any additional journey that shouldn't have been necessary? Beyond that - I agree. :)

I see that as reimbursement rather than compensation.
Maybe that's what the OP meant.

Hand sanitisers do last for years but loose some effectiveness after about 3 years.
