PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

So 'my' house acquired some land but not the rights to the diamonds/golds/cobalt etc underneath it?
There are other MSE forum members who also suffer deprivations, like not being able to use their land to raise pigs, or to maintain a brothel. It's a thing.Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool.2 -
Same here with the mineral rights - apparently ours belong to a specific named person, who must be in his 90s by now, if not older. The solicitor could find no reference to him, or to him ever having passed them to anyone else. I figured if he turns up with a shovel I'll make him a cuppa and let him get on with it.
At our old house (a city terrace with a tiny garden) we were prohibited from running a tannery or operating a steam hammer 😂1 -

Back in less 'woke' times, when kids were allowed proper toys that could maim them and set fire to their house, they'd fire up the old Mamod steam engine in their bedrooms on a rainy Saturday morning. My mate's wasn't as posh as this set up, but it was still good for doing things like firing caps from cap guns. You don't see those around either these days.
