Plusnet: Moving house to a Virgin Fibre Area

Options
Hoping someone might have some advice on this.
I have been with Plusnet for many years, happy enough with the service but I am moving to a new place that has a Virgin Media Fibre line. It would seem that Plusnet will need to install a Phone line, costs about £50, and then the estimated speed will be around 36-56mbps, I currently get and pay for 70 - 72Mbps.
My contract currently ends in May 2022, so I am facing paying £50 for the privilege of getting almost half of my original speed.
I presume that given they are prepared to install a line, at my expense, that there is no get out clause for the contract?
I suspect ill just end up forking over however much they want for an early termination as I work from home I have no intention of paying extra for something so mediocre.

No, moving house doesn't provide a get out clause for the contract.

Work from home ,is this a business contract ??
VM is a totally different own brand network to PN and others .
You have a VALID CONTRACT AT CURRENT ADDRESS , you need to pay this in full if cancelling . If the ISP will let you home move , then it depends upon infrastructure at the new address as to speed etc .
Work out what it costs as a new VM customer as opposed to paying off the current contract .
BUT it is worth asking if they would consider realising from contract as they cannot supply current speed . ( they are under no obligation to do so )

Why would you want anything less than the gigabit outside your front door?  Even virgin basic is currently 100meg.

is something between 40 and 50Mbps going to be a problem? Less speed is not automatically worse in terms of user experience.
  • Thanks for the advice guys, I guess it makes sense to ask them nicely first and see if they can help but otherwise expect to pay the remainder of my contract off. Seems like they subtract some amount due to the early repayment but not sure what that will end up being.
I work from home but its not a business contract or anything. And while the slower speeds of 40-50 might not be too bad for some, we really would benefit from the greater speeds. Working from home requires some fast solid connections for my remote desktop access. I work in VFX and can often be downloading/transferring a lot of data.
  • I am in an almost identical situation with my present contract with PN running out in September 2021 so may not ned to pay any early penalties.  I hope to be out of here by the end of August this year possibly.  I currently have a 76 Meg connection via FTTC and it is decent enough for my current needs.  The new house will these speeds drop by 50% if I use PN at the new address.  The kicker is that VM service the area and I feel more inclined to pay extra for what will be a faster service once the move takes place albeit at a higher price after the introductory period.
