VAT / Import Charges on Replacement Item

Hey, I RMAed some gear to a company in the EU but when they sent me the replacement I had to pay import customs / VAT. This was a replacement for a faulty item, and I didn't pay for the replacement.
I usually pay for customs / VAT for importing gear I've paid for of course, but is it normal to pay the face value customs fees for a free replacement?

Yes, however you were able to reclaim the taxes paid on the item you exported out of the UK0

Hey @Sandtree @sheramber - many thanks for that. Do I have to be VAT-registered as a business to claim back the VAT?
