Sudol High tack is the best on the market just now, but it depends on the weight that the strips need to hold with shelves etc.
If it's just strips of the size you say then anything would do really as they are very small and light so the creapest option is your best bet and Pink grip is cheap and over kill for what you need.
What are peoples' opinions of Pink Grip as an adhesive?
It's fine for what it is, not the best nor the worst. It's been shown to have a fairly low load rating in tests so if you want to hang something heavy duty or something with a lot of wear then I'd look elsewhere.
I've tried pink grip and thought it was cr*p. OP - it'll all depend how flat the wal you're sticking to is. If it's not almost perfectly flat, you may find you need some additional fixings to pull the wood tight to the wall.
I've recently panelled the wall and staircase in my house. The main backboard of the panels were screwed to the walls. I screwed them in along the top and bottom and also where the upright sections of the frame would go. This ensures all screw holes are covered by the decorative framing. I used 9mm MDF for the framing and this was attached using Wickes solvent free instant adhesive. In some places I used small oval nails which are driven just below the surface and have been filled / painted.
