New Car Issues - Can I reject
Comments
-
Not sure why you purchased the car with the issues and not inspecting - buying in a hurry was your choice and surprising for one of the largest purchases most people make.
If this was a distance sell, then you'd be able to reject for any reason in the first 14 days. It does not sound like this applies though as you say you completed paperwork at the Dealership.
It is possible to reject a car within 30 days for faults. But the faults you describe were evident prior to purchase, so may not even give you these grounds to reject. Did the price reflect the condition?
You may be reliant upon the Dealer's goodwill. Is it a Skoda Approved Used? If so, can you claim on the 30 Day / 1,000 mile exchange policy? Note - that is exchange and not refund.
Failing all that, the following thread may assist with the cigarette smell:

Thanks Grumpy_chap, I did not know about the 30 day exchange policy. That's handy knowledge. It is a Skoda Approved Used car.
The animal hair is a concern as it can have a detrimental affect on my husbands health as he's allergic to cat hair and it affects his breathing.
I need a car so Im happy to either exchange it or give them the chance to rectify the issues we've picked up. I accept it will have minor damage like scratches but when it looks like its had a new bonnet I feel like I have a right to be concerned.0 -
So, you didn't do the most cursory inspection, which would have shown you the 'filthy' interior? Please don't tell us you didn't test drive it either?DonnaH1 said:The car had to come in from Skoda UK and the quick view we had of it showed it looked fine. We were kind of ushered straight in to do the paperwork before hand as I was running late
If so you've in effect bought it sight unseen, but without the considerable protection of a distance sale. In which case you are largely reliant on the more limited rights offered under the dealer's/Skoda's own warrantyNo free lunch, and no free laptop

Some vandal may have jumped on it, a previous owner may have dropped something heavy on it.DonnaH1 said:but when it looks like its had a new bonnet I feel like I have a right to be concerned. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -
And given its been resprayed all around the front it could have been in a more serious accident.....lincroft1710 said:

The design of modern vehicles means that the frontal area is designed to crumple upon impact. Even a slow speed shunt could result in panel damage severe enough to warrant replacementDonnaH1 said:

You will need to check the details of the exchange policy as this is a Skoda customer service level, not any consumer rights.DonnaH1 said:I need a car so Im happy to either exchange it or give them the chance to rectify the issues we've picked up. In particular, does the exchange policy allow you to offer the opportunity to rectify and then still exchange if you remain unhappy?
If you proceed with rectification rather than exchange, you need to understand beforehand what criteria you will consider as satisfactory to then be happy with the car.- Level of cleanliness and smoke-free?
- Quality of bodywork repair at the front, given that the car has suffered past impact damage and can not be un-crashed?
- How animal hair free does it need to be?

Thanks everyone for your input. You all pretty much confirmed my own thoughts on the process. We all learn from our mistakes, just a shame some are quite judgemental 😊.
We emailed the Sales Manager all our issues with the car and he asked to see it as soon as we could take it in. So we did an hour later.
He picked up a couple of other issues we hadn't even spotted and agreed it should not have been sold to us in the state its in. It doesn't meet their standards. Seems like the garage team have tried to cut corners to turn it around fast as it took longer than expected to arrive.
Car goes in on monday for the corrections (cleaning, numerous paint jobs, dent removal, plastic refurbs and new boot liner are just some of the jobs) and will stay there till its at a satisfactory level and in the meantime they'll loan out a demo car of similar size. Fingers crossed its all sorted by this time next week.
