Virgin Money Mobile App - Useless

I give up with some of the idiots that specify security on this app. Asking for 3 letters/digits from you password is just crazy particularly on a mobile app. If you follow the rules and have a complicated password that cannot be remembered and shouldnt be written down then you dont have a cat in hells chance of Setting up/Editing a standing order unless you have a password management system on your smartphone.
Can anyone suggest a mobile banking app system that enables you to setup/amend standing orders from the mobile app without a complicated system of digits/letters from a complicated password.

Change to a password easier to remember?3

I use a password manager and I've found that sites like these are usually the worst the deal with - its usually easiest to just copy the password into a temporary document, count out the characters and then delete everything afterwards. I end up having to avoid using these on mobile since it is a huge faff. Outside of that, personally I've found Lloyds/Halifax/Bank of Scotland the easiest app to use as they only require your full password and/or 3 characters from your "memorable phrase" to make changes. NatWest, RBS, and Santander do the same thing as Virgin, although once you register for the app you only need to remember a passcode or your card reader to do most things.0

How often do you set up or change a standing order? What's the big deal in working out 3 characters/digits from your password? What's the big deal in using a password manager?0

As for why password managers are important, having strong and unique passwords for every online site is vital to prevent replay attacks caused by re-using passwords between sites. Password managers make it easy to do this and are recommended by many major security experts.
I also personally don't think I should have to sacrifice security for ease of use. If sites ask us to use a strong password and offers the ability to use a strong password, then they should also make it easy to use the site on a regular basis with a strong password.schiff said:Change to a password easier to remember?

(and please don't tell me that anyone could remember such a password, so they'll have it written down somewhere and can refer to that somewhere as and when needed)4 -
If you're always going to be asked for three characters from your password, design your password so that it's easy to remember the characters by position. As a (bad) example: ptfcrgsmllpd is fairly secure and easy to remember the individual characters if you can remember the 12 Days of Christmas. My actual password is derived from multiple number-object associations that I can remember easily but are not at all obvious or related.Eco Miser

Even if you do have an easily remembered password, remembering which letters are in which position isn't always straightforward but I digress. I agree that these are sometimes self-inflicted problems.
That said, I think OP's question of finding a banking app that works around their passwords, rather than finding a password that works around their banking app is a fair question to ask - plenty of people like a bank with a well-designed app/website, so I don't see why this isn't something else that can be considered as a part of that.

BTW, how do you login to the app? using biometric (fingerprint) or using a password?0 -

I don't recognise any of the problems you describe with the Virgin Current Account app (which is the app the OP complains about). The online banking for current accounts has not been decommissioned, either, and it is possible to operate the Virgin current accounts exclusively through online banking.0 -

I'm refering to the app that manages the current account and savings account.
Re. decommissioning...I got the credit card app mixed up..it's the online (website) for credit card that is decommissioned.
Still, app for managing current account is slow. Perhaps on iOS it's fine. I wouldn't know0
