Replacing radio/cassette with cd/mp3
Options
Can anybody advise me please. I have a W reg (2000) Renault Scenic with a radio/cassette player. I would like to replace it with a JVC CD In-Car (item no. 500/5732 in the Argos catalogue). Can anybody tell me roughly how much I should expect to pay to have this done? Will I need an adaptor cable set? I am thinking of asking my local garage to do it. Or I could ask Halfords I suppose....

you can buy wiring harnesses, check on ebay.i think its a company called autoleads.
you may also need a facia plate.
try this link http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&satitle=renault+autoleads&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&a6=-24&a10244=-24&alist=a6%2Ca70691%2Ca23730%2Ca31299%2Ca70692%2Ca10244&pfmode=1&reqtype=1&gcs=2408&pfid=3537&pf_query=renault+autoleads&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D3&sadis=200&fpos=ML1+2SQ&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ga10244=10425&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search...work permit granted!0 -

I am assuming it isnt a simple case of replacing one with the other? Presumably some kind of adaptor would be needed?Ellie

It's generally something like £30 to £50 to get a car stereo installed.
It isn't usually that difficult a job to do, although you may need keys to remove the original stereo. These should have come with the car, but a modified coat hanger can sometimes work just as well.
Car audio direct website doesn't list any adapters for your car, so there might not be any adapter needed, but this will become obvious once the old stereo is removed and you can see the connector and compare it with the one on the new stereo.0 -
i would get stereo with a usb slot in it (ebuyer have one for £50) as you can just whack a pen drive full of mp3s in it, a lot cheaper than an ipod and fm addaptor0

We got a Sony with USB slot in it, great for playing usb pen drives. Argos had it on offer with free fitting, but you still had to buy the facia as its on a Ford focus and also the iso connector. In the end I went to a local car stereo shop and they priced one up with fitting and I asked them if they would match Argos with the fitting and extras and just cost me a fiver more but I didnt have to wait weeks for the firm that does it for Argos to come.
The sony player also playes cdrw discs (with mp3's) and also has a IPod connector0 -
Just check the compatibility with the steering wheel controls for the scenic as well - as sometimes there are different autolead kits depending on what you want to still be able to do - a sophisticated one may cost £50 if you wish to retain seperate display and controls.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

One slightly different solution would be to get one of those FM transmiter deals for your MP3 player (iTrip is the one for iPods, not sure if they're available for other players) which will then broadcast your MP3 player through your FM radio. No work or fitting costs. I love mine.
That said, the JVC does look an ace buy at the the 1/2 price argos offer. My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0 -
