Is there a App or method, so that my phone won’t connect to marine networks ?
So I’m off on a UK cruise soon…and although I’m with 3 and therefore get EU roaming….I want to stop the phone connecting to the Maritime network…which obvs is more expensive..
is there a way of doing this
IOS or android

You have to be very careful because just blocking the maritime options is not always enough.
We got caught by picking up Isle of man on one trip, its included with go roam on three,
You could just turn off data roaming with maritime(should be off in port) incoming text should be free and call charged only if you answer them which you can check first..
You can change your network settings to a fixed network(3) rather than auto. that will stop it picking the best signal it can find.
The issue with that is depending where the cruise is going a better signal may be a French or ROI network for example and you would need to do a manual search to select those while at sea.

I work for a specialist Marine IT/ Telecoms company. My advice is this: Switch your phone off.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.1 -

this would be the first break me and wife have had in almost 18 months..
phone would be for emergency contact only…not for uploading stuff 2 FB and all that.
thought someone have have done a App or something along those lines to prevent this.
thanks anyway0 -
When we go away we just turn the phone on if we want to make a call or listen to voicemails when the boat is in port so there's no reason to use the maritime service on the boat.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

Depending on ship the phone can be very useful as they provide services on the ships intranet through your device.
Turning the phone off is an option but not needed for UK cruise just turning off roaming is enough, just don't answer calls or airplane and turn WiFi back on.

Wanted to leave phone on to see any missed calls etc..
However will just have to use flight mode and check once every couple of hours whilst I am sure of a UK signal.

If you don't answer calls there should be no charges
incoming text should be free.
Just turn the data roaming off and you should be OK.
or
fix it to the 3 network
Will tend to drain battery as it searches for the network.
Depending on cabin you may not get a signal even in port.
upper outside decks can often get a signal quite a way offshore.
or have a holiday and ignore the phone.0 -
