J_B said:Still struggling, sadly.When I boot to the old HDD, I can now see the new drive, it's called D now.However, when I boot from the USB and run the W10 installation, it says <<Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style>>I changed the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy, but it made no difference.Bedtime methinks ... maybe tomorrow ...
Select Windows 10 Home on the next screen and then;
So the issue is probably on the next screen. This one:
If there are any partitions showing, you need to delete them; but they may be from the old HDD; so you'd need to be careful as to what you delete. It would have been easier if you simply disconnected the old HDD during the installation, in so there would be no confusion.
Otherwise if you choose to delete and there is still an issue, you won't be able to boot from the old HDD again without rebuilding the bootloader.
So easiest to simply not have the HDD attached.0 -
Trying to avoid opening it back up again as it was not that simple and my clumsy hands may damage something!!! (Or am I just being lazy? 🤔 )***************************************************************************I had already followed the above three photos (but it didn't ask for the windows key)On 'where to install' it's offering Drive 0 (which is the old HDD) Drive 1 (the new M2) and Drive 2 (the USB)I deleted the spare partition on Drive 1 and it then offered to install, but then give error 0x803000240

If you don't want to open it up again; you can try disabling the HDD via the BIOS. Either individually or by disabling SATA.2

you will only be able to install windows on a gpt drive if uefi is enabled in bios. Check it is enabled - otherwise convert the disk to mbr

He isn't trying to install on a GPT drive. It's the current HDD being active that is causing the confusion. Take it out of action and then start again. This time it should only be the SSD showing, at which point he can confidently delete all existing partitions and install to Unallocated Space. Utilising UEFI anyway.2 -

Indeed - tested my patience for a while as I couldn't find the original browser and email info off the old HDD, but 'View / Show hidden folders' sorted that.Many thanks everyone for all the assistance.0
