Perfectly understandable!;) When I went I'd booked to stay in a very nice hotel - the only snag was it was run by The Salvation Army so there wasn't even anything remotely alcoholic in the minibar. It was a very dry weekend generally. Oh, how I enjoyed that complimentary drink on my flight home!Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0 -
Wow I was about to start an almost identical thread when I saw this one lurking at the bottom of the board. I'm also a morgan... coincidence!
BF and I are going next tuesday - a bit gutted that we are missing the skansen market and the st lucia stuff but hey it means I'm getting 2 weeks off work over christmas so can't complain.
Some great ideas here that I've now made a note of. I'm so excited! It looks like its going to be getting colder towards the weekend so hopefully there'll be some snowfall!
I guess its probably too late now but I also heard that there is ice skating in the Kungsgaten (sp?) park which might be fun for you and the littlies.0 -
Going there soon too. Looking forward to hearing about everyone's trips and tips.
We might try out the Centralbadet Spa for a swim:

Just got back this evening! we had a really lovely time and didn't spend a ridiculous amount of money. Went to Skansen on Thursday, saw the Lucia procession which was really really beautiful. Tiny tiny bit of snow. Then met up with a friend who comes from Stockholm on the Friday, went to the Nordic Museum, which the kids loved, and the Christmas funfair at Skansen (the ice skating is FREE on a Friday, fabulous, and we also got into the fairground free by taking a copy of the local Metro in with us). Again, tiny tiny bit of snow. Even managed to find a promotional tent which was giving away free Grogg! Then on Saturday we spent most of the day in Gamla Stan and Stockholm town centre, taking in the sights and enjoying the Christmas market up in the centre of the old town.
Food and drink wasn't really a problem as we had MASSIVE amounts at breakfast time at the youth hostel adn managed to sneak enough out for lunch for the boys; one night we all had a meal of meatballs which came to about £18 for the four of us; includign drinks, I didn't think that was TOO bad. The worst was Saturday evening;' the boys were very hungry and we ended up eating in Gamla Stan (big mistake!); pizza for the boys and goulash soup for us came to about £24, including drinks ... I couldn't help thinking it would have been so much cheaper if we'd bought stuff from the supermarket and cooked it at the youth hostel!!!
Stockholm is a beautiful city, it's easy to get around, the transport is very efficient and everyone working in shops, etc., are very helpful; to those of you planning on going soon, it is cheaper to buy a strip of travel tickets from the newsagents in the train stations than to buy them from the booths themselves.
However, I did find that people in the streets, etc., were quite intolerant of young children and I was definitely left with the feeling that children should be seen and not heard ... now our two are VERY well behaved little boys, but little boys are high spirited and they were very excited about being on holiday. One guy on the train told my little one off for accidentally kicking him as he climbed onto the train seat, even though little one had apologised!!!That's Numberwang!0 -
Hello - does anyone have anything to add to the comments above?
We are going to Sweden in July for 4 days - staying in a hotel outside Stockholm in Nacka(?). It is on an island I think. We hope to visit the Vasa museum and look around Stockholm but also do a boat trip or two as I have heard that the archipelago is amazingly beautiful. What sort of wildlife cold we hope to see?
Any thoughts/ ideas would be very gratefully received.
BTW - the flights are costing a total of £200 (SAS) for both and the hotel is costing about £105/night for room and breakfast, which doesn't seem too bad - we have taken on board all the comment about the expense of the place though!!0 -

The Nobel Museum in gamala stan is very interesting about Alfred Nobel and all the Nobel prize winners.
Unfortunately we didn't see too much when I was there as I spent half the time in bed after getting sick
I'm sure you'll have a great time though.0
