BAN on gas boilers 2025??

Options
Hi I hope you are well, at the moment in my flat I have electric heating I was about to spend £3-5K on a new gas boiler system from scratch however is there any point as the gov announced there might be a ban on all gas boilers from 2025?

If it happens there will be a lot of hypothermia around.

If it does happen it will only ban the installation of new gas boilers, it won't mean existing boilers can't be used.  I strongly suspect the date will be moved as many of the proposed alternatives simply aren't practical in many homes.

If you get a new gas boiler now, then you will have at least the life of the current boiler before you have to worry about going electric.

2025 is the cut off date for new builds only, so no gas boilers from 2025+ in new build properties.

Existing properties can have new gas boilers fitted, some thing to do with the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050

Gas will get more & more expensive for the consumer, similar to having a diesel,or petrol vehicle.   :|

I would consider installing the most efficient electric room heaters & hot water system  :)

The ban will be on new installs of gas boilers going forward not on boilers installed before this date. The date is quite optimistic as the Government will need prices for alternatives to come down significantly before this.

Think if someone is having a new boiler installed, it might be prudent to buy a second one to mothball for the future.  Yes the current policy of banning FF boilers in new-builds is going to cause problems as it is.  It'll be chaos if they try a total ban.  The policy-makers seem to be getting dizzy with setting ambitious new targets.

Fine as long as they don't stop pumping gas, it's compatible with hydrogen if they change to that, parts are still available during the life of the second boiler, the world still exists....

If you can get gas installed in your flat then that will be by far the most cost-effective.  They won't force people to remove their existing boilers in the foreseable future.

Apparently about 85% of homes have gas, so there has to be industry support for another 20 years I'd have thought, even if they prevent new instals in coming years
