Kitchen fitter cut new washing machine wire

Options
We have paid a company to provide and install our new kitchen. We kept some of our old appliances.

During fitting he has cut my washing wire and used a connector box to feed wires under units.

Is a connector box safe behind a washing machine? This machine machine is 2 month old I'm aware this will void the warranty....is that correct?

We pay the final 20% on completion. Do I offset the cost of the washing against this as I didnt give permission for this?

Also all wires now run behind intregrated fridge making it very difficult for access.

Thanks in advance

It's not unusual to hardwire appliances in.  As to your warranty, you'll need to check the terms, but it wouldn't change your consumer rights.

I wouldn't simply deduct the cost of your washing, or even your washing machine, without at least having a conversation with the installer. If you do deduct the cost of the washing machine, then be prepared to give it to him, as he will effectively own it.
  • Thanks for your response 😊

How do I now move this when hard wired in for tile fitter? Also he would actually be welcome to the washing machine at the cost I paid as we are having a few problems with it clogging so we were about to use the warranty.

Also I'm sorry to chip in with another comment. The gas hob has been fitted el. (Very slightly). It is 2mm out from side to side. I can notice this slightly when looking. Should I request for this to be put level?

You just disconnect it (switch the power off at the fuse box first). It's a two minute job.  If you're not sure what you're doing with electrics, find someone who does.

Speak to the fitter re the hob.
  • Yeah I will. Again thanks.

I will ring washer warranty and see if they accept plug being cut as I require them to come out anyway.

Is the hob an easy fix? Sorry for the questions guys

Is the worktop level? Hob (and worktop) should be level and ask him to fix free of charge

Your washing machine warranty is now void!
It should have a socket in an adjacent cupboard or a fused spur so it can be isolated in a hurry!
kitchens come under part p and your fitter should not be doing electrical work!
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'
  • My fitting company do all work. They have qualified people in all areas. Plaster, gas safe and an electrician. I have certificates to show completed work if that helps?

Thats different, however he shouldn’t have cut your plug off and can you isolate your appliances?
You had me worried when you said connector block!
I must add I’m a carpenter who do a lot of kitchens not an electrician!

  • Yea I can. All sockets are in cupboard but like 3 along near oven so no way I could pull wire all the way through
