The FTSE All Share has outperformed the S&P 500 since the beginning of the year. Often markets have moved before you've realised it.

It's become fashionable to say this, but it isn't true.

You do realise that the US uses dollars and not pounds. Exchange rates have a material impact on investment performance.  ;)

As you correctly say never invest just because it's fashionable. As the tide may have turned before you realise it has.  :)

Can you please post evidence of the FTSE All Share's outperformance of the S and P 500 this year? I'd like to see a YTD graph that includes currency differences.

If you set this one to 1 year you can see the improving picture for the UK .

Good for VLS, which I've just sold in favour of more global funds!

Having said that, I did benefit from VLS' great first 6 months of 2022, which outpaced it's rivals.

Here's FTSE All-Share (A) versus Invesco S&P 500 UCITS ETF GBP (B) from 1 January (31 December is defaulted in instead) to 1 June, from Trustnet:

Perhaps noteworthy that if using 4 January (first working day) instead, the graph looks a bit different given the significant opposite movements that day:

Thanks for this. Another new thing I've learned.

If you know exactly what markets will do for the first six months of next year, you're in prime position to make a killing! ;)

Even knowing the first six months of this year would give you an edge for the next four weeks....

For instance, if the large tech multinational companies are going to pay 10% more tax (so basically drop their profit by 10%), and if they account for a large part of the DowJones given their market cap, are we looking for a correction soon?
