Has anybody experienced the following scenario. My wife is in the process of selling her late parents home. We know for a fact her parents settled the mortgage, which was with Northern Rock (I know!!!), was fully paid in the late 1980s.
Problem is, there is no written evidence the mortgage was paid in any documentation left by my wife’s parents and our conveyancers are not having any joy from NRAM who now administer Northern Rock mortgages. Her parents were in possession of the Title Deeds which we had assumed would be sufficient evidence of the mortgage being settled. There is a buyer ready to exchange and this is the only stumbling block.
There is no record with the land registry.
Does anyone have any advice on how this issue can be resolved?
Thanks in anticipation.

Is there any mention of a charge against the property in the Land Registry (is that the issue)? Is there an insurance type that would cover it?1
