This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. It's a lovely bright start to the day. Here's hoping it lasts.Yesterday I spent a good part of it clearing out my food cupboards and getting rid of extraneous stuff. I drove up to Oban to do a little shopping as I haven't turned on the fridge here yet. On the way back I visited old friends who moved from Glasgow years ago. The chap was a colleague of DM's at the university although from a different department. He told me stories which I hadn't heard before so it was delightful. In the early afternoon another friend from the estate came to call briefly. He'll cut down some hardwood for me and load it in the barn so it can season for next winter (2022) as I'll burn all the over dry wood this winter.I've off back to Glasgow this morning. I've decided to clear DM's place as soon as possible. Even though there's no real rush I don't want it to drag out, my life has to move forward, it'd be too easy to stagnate.I hope that our poorlies are feeling better and that the sun is shining on them. Happy Monday to all.16

Good morning, and thanks for starting the thread Gers. It's bright here as well, as you say, hope it lasts. How nice that you were chatting about your Mum with someone who'd known her, that's lovely.I think you're sensible in going back to Glasgow this morning to continue clearing your Mum's place, there's no point in delaying, it just prolongs a sad situation. We had a great day out yesterday with Ds and family, we went to Seahouses on the Northumberland coast - the wind was chilly, but we walked and walked on the beach, then went along to Bamburgh and walked what seemed like miles there! We'd taken a picnic (far too much stuff as usual), we scoffed that at lunchtime, but we went back to Seahouses for fish and chips before coming home. Dil remembered she had a grocery delivery coming at 7 but we left there at 5.30 and were at their place by 6.30, so that was ok.We were whacked last night, we haven't walked so much for months, still, we enjoyed it.Nothing much happening today, just tidying.Thinking of our poorly people, and hoping everyone has a good day - take care folks.15

Morning all.
Gers, you are so sensible to start straight in on clearing up your Mum's flat. It has to be done, and putting it off isn't going to make it any easier. Is there anyone in Glasgow who could give you a hand? It's so much easier to have company when you are doing a job like that. Glad that you are looking forward to the winter after next! There is nothing like being prepared.
Scarlet, so glad you had a good day yesterday. Your mention of Bamburgh reminds my of a childhood friend. The family name was Castle and some evil demon told her father to name his daughter Bamburgh. If anyone called her anything but 'Bambi' they were dead.
I'm wondering how many people will be heeding the advice to be sensible and careful on this hot, sunny bank holiday. Past experience tells me that the ferries will be busy today and our island will be packed with holidaymakers and tourists. Islanders will be keeping away from the beaches.
Whatever you are doing today, have a good one.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning All
It was gloriously sunny when I got up but has turned cloudy now but still warm with that lovely fresh feel. I've stripped the bed and remade it with the summer quilt on - thought I was going to bake last night!
Our trip down south went really well, slight traffic hold up on the way there but a great run back up - 5 hours door to door with 2 stops for the little one, mind you we did leave at 6.50am! It was great to get home at lunch time to get the washing done and sit in the garden for a while but it was a bit too hot. Enjoyed catching up with my Aunt and cousin (not so much the horrible cousin who came to see us). Aunt is getting frail but is better than I thought she would be so I'm happy about that. The little one wasn't at all shy and entertained everyone during both visits.
Off to the allotment this morning and then to do some shopping, the rest of the day will be spent relaxing with a book outside (hopefully) and avoiding the bank holiday traffic.
Safe trip Gers, hope you've enjoyed the peace of being at home but it's wise to get things sorted as it will only drag on.
Take care. XX14 -
Monna,'Bamburgh Castle' how bizarre!! Poor girl, maybe she was conceived there, in a moment of passion in the sand dunes, though no, then they might have called her Dune!!

Snoozer, i've just read yesterday's thread (should have done that earlier).I was shocked to read your post about the state your house had been left in, that's awful. What kind of people do this?At least you've got it cleaned up.How will you deal with it, will you contact the people concerned or just draw a line and accept that some people, sadly, think that it's ok to behave like this.15

Morning folks and thanks GERS for setting us off. Have a safe journey back to Glasgow. It's a shame you couldn't stay in your little home longer but I can understand that you want to crack on with the jobs at DM's. The sooner started the sooner finished.
The 3 girlies left at 5.00 pm yesterday and, although they are no bother, I was shattered after all the non stop meal making, dishwasher filling and emptying and general tidying! And the freezers are looking very depleted! I've just been adding lots of stuff to my grocery order booked for tomorrow to stock them up again.
So a day of rest for me today. The sun is still hiding but they say it will burn through as the morning goes on. I couldn't take advantage of the wall to wall sunshine yesterday as the girls are not really sun lovers and preferred to stay indoors crafting but I shall be out in it later, book in hand.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Its cloudy with a very slight breeze, we are told the sun will break through later.
DB has palpitations again, he normally goes for at least 2 weeks between then, not this time the last ones were on Friday.
Yesterdays garden visit was a bit disappointing, the garden was split into bits, very small veggie garden. There were lemon trees in the conservatory with lemons on. Forget me knots had run amok in all the garden. It was quite expensive to go in and the Church was not serving teas due to covid, so we came home and had tea in the garden. We just had light supper quiche and a bit of salad.
Gers, I think you are very wise to clear your Mums flat its the sort of job that needs doing as soon as possible and you can then return back to your little cottage knowing that you did your absolutely all you could for your Mum.
Right, time to get on I have a load in the washer which will dry on the line. The cleaner is due this morning, so a nice clean house later.

Morning all, another lovely day, although we've got the back door open & it's a bit cool. Dog walked on the park, then back down the road to view the shortened conifers from a different angle, still look tall, but yesterday we had sun in the back at times when it wouldn't normally get through so it's much better. We sat out and had a bbq later.Had a surprise visit from DS2 and the children, they were sunbathing on the front lawn,DGS took his T shirt off & DGD covered everywhere apart from her legs with a big towel
We had a quick visit to a garden centre once they'd gone, for some plants to put in a tub at the front so that's all planted up now
We still have some bbq stuff left so probably the same again tonight.Enjoy the sun, just seen photos of Brighton beach yesterday, not for me thank you

Scarlet, I'm not quite sure, we have a bloke who does all the admin for us, thankfully because I think we'd have been at a bit of a loss as to how to handle it, at least he's dealt with damages at some of the other properties he deals with. I think he'll probably try to get it from the people but I think he muttered something about Airbnb having a damages claim as well. Hopefully we won't be out of pocket too much (i don't think we can claim for the petrol to get up there on Saturday). Apparently a duvet cover and another towel had to be thrown because they wouldn't come clean. Everything else has been double washed and is ok.
Laura and Brian arrived for a barbecue last night, poor Esben has a cold and it's making him cough, he had quite a disturbed night, I was up with him for an hour to give Laura a break. He's still asleep now so I managed a catch up sleep. The men have gone to play golf with warnings to wear lots of sunscreen and a hat in Steve's case. The sun isn't out yet though I'm sure it's set to make an appearance. I'll be looking after Esben while Laura studies.
Gers, you're very wise I think, we did mum and dad's in 5 days, mainly because 3 of my brothers had leave and we all tackled it together, there was a very large shed with lots of dad's equipment in and lots of stuff in the house to be thrown.
I hope everyone has a good bank holiday and the poorlies are as well as can be expected.15
