Jinxed with Tall Freezers!

Interesting. I want to replace my aging Bosch upright freezer, and looked at the Samsung for the comparable capacity. BUT even on the Samsung website 50% reviews mention random defrosts and ruined food. Also multiple attempts to fix, poor manufacturer response etc. Not just there either, also on this site and Curry's reviews. This has been going on for years, with very similar symptoms to those you describe.I also have not found a large capacity upright freezer that seems to be reliable.1

Perhaps worth a trip to a city library to see what ‘Which?’ magazine recommends1

Yes, it does look like there is a bit of a problem with reliablility across all models, even expensive ones, even Miele/Liebherr. I don't really know what to do. Maybe its better to try and manage without. I just can't afford to pay a fortune for a freezer, then have fan problems or whatever and be throwing a lot of food out. Even paying £400 for a cheap freezer is silly, if it only just lasts out the warranty (like with the Indesit). I've looked into Bosch, Samsung, already looked at Indesit, Miele, Liebherr.., there doesn't seem to be a great level of reliability in any of them.
My cheap chest freezer did really well, but I just can't bend to get things out anymore (and lost things in the bottom lol)

We have a large Hotpoint ,sorry do not know the model but it is about 7 ft tall ,have had no problems except my wife will not be told it is full and now some of the plastic drawers in the freezer are cracked ;damaged as we try to carry more food than Sainsbury,s .1

Looking at the reviews on Samsung Customer services, I think buying a freezer from them which could be in need of repair is a no no. I have a Samsung Washing Machine (Direct Drive - was hoping for longevity again), but had to phone about a simple delivery issue and was sent to four different departments, all wrong lol. I knew then if it ever needed repair, I'd have problems.
So unfortunately, a Samsung Freezer is not something I'd go for. Itsw going to be very awkward, but I think i might have to just manage without.
Things have altered financially for me with energy companies going out of business, lots of increased costs all round, money isn't going as far as it was a year ago, I'm having to be more careful. I just don't feel right ordering something that has unreliability built in because of what it is and costs a fair bit. For the first time ever, I haven't upgraded my mobile phone lol. The new ones are ridiculously priced and I'm questioning every pound spent at the moment. I'm sure I'm not the only person. So its not going to be fun, but if I can't buy a freezer that has a reasonable chance of working in 2,3 or 4 years later, I will do without. If they were more reliable, if warranties did what they said on the tin, I would. But none of these things apply. I suppose the industry just thinks we are going to keep paying regardless of what they do.0 -
One of the contributers to this site has experience with Samsung where his freezer repeatedly defrosted, even after fixing/replacing. Eventually took them to court (AFAIR).0

Yeah I have had samsung phones for years, the washing machine was a top samsung model but I quickly realised I could have spent 1/3 of the money and bought something just as good (plus the flapping doors are a complete pain when you can't bend down so easily), plus problems I had speaking to Samsung to resolve a very simple issue.., and reading the reviews now.., I'm not buying Samsung anything again.
I did give up on finding a replacement, then I found a Haier model I could live with buying (H3F-280WSAAU1H3F). It at least has alarms it can send to your phone if the temperature rises internally. I guess no frost freezers are always going to have problems but if I can stop a defrost, I can prevent having to throw food away. Haier also seem to make the handles easier to open (my AEG one is very very hard to open, now its not so full, it drags across the kitchen if I try to open it ha ha). With arthritic hands, I could do with easy to open lol.
There doesn't seem to be review after review detailing customer service or repair problems with Haier.
I am querying with Appliances Direct if its easy to get engineers in if it needs a repair (something that can be a problem with the less common makes). But I think that's the one I will go for. Its actually less expensive than the AEG but reliability was far more important.

Another vote to avoid Samsung, purely as their aftermarket service is poor - bought an integrated Samsung fridge freezer, it turned up with no way of connecting it to the external cupboard doors. Got in touch ‘yes you didn’t pay £90 to have it fitted’ - no, but that doesn’t mean you don’t send the parts out and that wasn’t on the (Curry’s) website at all.Fast forward six weeks, they have now sent me three separate sets of plastic bits, two of which are duplicates (!) none of which actually let me fit the unit to the existing external cupboard doors, and every time you make contact it’s strings of emails, of phone calls with agents abroad who try their hardest but struggle with the technicalities of this, etc etc. Still not any further forward. Might have to get a kitchen fitter in to advise and then try and argue they sold me something not fit for purpose and attempt to get them to contribute for it being done. But suspect that’s a non starter, despite there not being any mention of ‘not pay for fitting not get bits’ on the website.Buy another brand is my advice.1
