BBQ - is it safe to have one on Flat Balcony?

Hi, our neighbours think its okay to have BBQ outside on their balcony on their 3rd floor flat. Is this stupid or am i being unnecessarily cautious.
We do have a factor, number of flats 28 per block up to 4 floors in height, their balcony has gaps in the floor to allow rain, ours is different. Local Fire officer says to report to them. Our title deeds says we can't put washing out but nothing about BBQ. Just a bit of common sense needed.
Anyone had  to deal with similar issues. Would our building insurance be valid?

Its not safe, but it's also not illegal. Have you had a conversation with your neighbours about it?

We did last year with one neighbour who was directly next to us - they agreed not to have a BBQ on the 4th floor terrace. This time will go through the factor to hopefully send out a note to all residents not to. (although TBH some people don't see the risk).

As a retired fireman and having dealt with a few balcony BBQ small fires and smoke logging I would say no, one you will probably upset neighbours with the smoke and you will probably fill the flat with smoke.

Whether it is safe would entirely depend on the construction of the balcony, the walls, any cladding, the railings, other items on the balcony etc. Whether it is sensible and/or whether it is anti-social are separate matters. If the leasehold agreement does not prohibit it then it is potentially going to be hard to stop them.

I personally wouldn't say it's unsafe and in many cases it can be done safely. But it's not something that should ever be done because it's very inconsiderate to the neighbors and a lot of people probably don't know how to judge if it's safe or not.

How bigs the balcony? Why is it not safe?

You won’t be able to hang washing because the developer thinks it looks chavvy to do so. It’s not a safety thing
