How To Get Rid Of Moths

We seem to have a moth infestation - those annoying little gold ones. They started off in one bedroom but now seem to have appeared in almost all the rooms. Any tips on how to get rid of them?
We've tried moth balls, aromatherapy sprays, those fancy incense stick like things and airing all the rooms but nothing seems to work. I know there are tonnes of ideas online but I was just wondering if anyone has tried anything which actually works.
Does the fact we have moths means the house is damp or in disrepair or something?

Tiny little pale moths? They are laying eggs in all your natural fibres - wool carpets, sweaters, coats etc and the hatching larvae will munch away at them! Hoovering all carpets, especially under furniture, helps. I've used the pheromone sticky moth traps and caught hundreds of moths, but not necessarily all carpet moths.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Entopest-Common-Clothes-Pheromone-Replacement/dp/B01N7Z3GZL/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3QSTY120AUAME&dchild=1&keywords=moth+trap&qid=1622309086&sprefix=moth%2Caps%2C352&sr=8-6 . In wardrobe and drawers I've used Rentokil Moth Killer Papers and cedar blocks - they seem to be working.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.4 -
If they are tiny little gold ones that look like they could be small chips of wood, then they are most certainly clothes/carpet moths, and they are a nightmare to get rid of. As Ka7e said, they adore natural fibres, pet hair etc. Unfortunately you will need to pull everything out, every piece of furniture and clean thoroughly. I mean steam, scrub, wash the lot.I had a infestation once, and it was from the cat being sick behind a unit, which we didnt know about. I pulled it out to clean and the carpet came away in chunks. The larvae roll themselves up in the fibres, they look like little cigars. It took me weeks to get on top of them. I bought some spray for fabrics and some power that I put under the underlay.3

I bought some spray and sprayed all my carpets, curtains and furniture, added the sticky traps and hoover regularly. They haven't gone away completely but have vastly reduced the problem and the damage. They love wool carpets and cashmere in particular, so if you have any clothing you love, I would seal it away.2

Be very aware. I recall someone who bought vintage clothes. They had moths, and they totally infested her house, causing her to get rid of all her clothes and carpets. Was an absolute nightmare2

They seem to have gone bananas again. It must be with the warm weather.
Any more suggestions?
I've tried https://www.toolstation.com/hanging-moth-trap/p46219 and https://www.ocado.com/products/acana-moth-killer-lavender-79858011?gclid=CjwKCAjw5s6WBhA4EiwACGncZWsrQx5p-UPr0wKDQ85Mt-8PtSi0yzYhllH00hRP64ZhK7oJU-WdfxoCGMoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Not getting much luck with either! The Ocado thing was absolutely useless, what a waste of money!0 -
Lots of good info here https://www.pest-expert.com/clothes-moths-18-c.asp I used thier stuff
if they have already infested then it’s too much for just moth balls and lavender spray from my experience
Find where they are munching or you can.. likely clothes or hidden wool carpet under furniture. It then needs lots of hoovering and using products.
Ours were mainly under the back of the divan bed but some in other places. We fogged, hoovered, used spray and powder, and repeated the hoover and spray several times.4 -

Why is that so long?
I used the above, catches loads but needs to be used with vacuuming every square inch as often as possibleLove living in a village in the country side2 -
Yes they tend to breed more in the heat, you need to disrupt the breed cycle to successfully get on top of them. Ignore those piddly little traps, they do nothing. You need to identify the source ie where they are breeding (usually around carpet edges and undisturbed corners) and kill the larvae. There is good advice on this page, this is where I bought my spray and powder from.

I had small silver moths appearing regularly in my lounge.
Kept putting them out but still kept appearing.
They were coming from a long woven
nest around 2ft long under the skirting board which was badly fitted anyway.
The larvae was a yellow colour and I pulled it all out and put it outside so that they could maybe vacate.
Set alight to it eventually.

I found that a combination of steaming (under all furniture and all round the edges) compbined with spray once a week did the trick. It's really hard work though and took about 6 months.2
