Buying a property on a private road

I am in the process of buying a property on a private road. I recently discovered that in 2018 my prospective next door neighbour bought a chunk of this road for £500. This is a section of about 100 yards leading from the edge of my prospective property to the public road. I checked with my solicitor and he said I shouldn't be concerned because my title deeds give me title absolute to use the road. Should I be concerned at all?

    Might be worth clarifying the maintenance obligations over this private road, regardless of who actually owns it or parts of it.  It's usual for the maintenance to be shared among all those properties with a right of access over private roads but the precise arrangements and obligations can vary.

    Any obligations should be documented in the property deeds so, as above, your solicitor should be advising about this.  I'd also ask the seller how much they've had to contribute to its maintenance over the past 10 years.

    I think it would worthwhile finding out why the neighbour that chunk of road - is it possible someone is looking to building further down and this is a way to prevent access?
