    Thanks. I’m 811, which, as clarified in another post is 00.30 till 7.30. 
    My DNO isn’t straightforward as they are an IDNO and exceptionally hard to get hold of. They only want to talk with professionals about network stuff (and take 3.5 months to generate a G98), and never call back. Until you shame them on social media. 😂

    I have never sat and watched my meter to validate if it’s working properly and if the time is actually correct. According to octopus app i can see I usually draw 0.06kwh at 00.00 so this indicates my clock is fast. I’ll adjust my battery to start charging 15 mins later.
    @ecraig If you cannot get a sensible answer from the DNO, go and watch the meter.

    @ecraig Wrong on both counts, I'm afraid.  That could be an expensive mistake if you have appliances controlled by local timeswitches.  The times are set by your Distribution Network Operator, not your supplier.
    You need to check what your meter is actually doing, not what it should be doing.

    THE CORRECT WAY

    A reliable way is to use the MTSC  (meter time switch code) which is the number on middle upper block on which you can find on your bill

    @dunstonh sorry that is NOT the definitive time that your rates will switch!
    As mentioned previously in this thread
    "It would be your Distribution Network Operator" that determines the exact switching time (for me it's National Grid - was Western Power Networks).
    The MTSC gives your the nominal switch times. Eg. mine is 811, but the actual times are 0039-0739 GMT.
    You need to either sit in front of the meter and check what time it actually switches OR Ask your Distribution Network Operator.
    And just FYI, the clock is not wrong, it's a Smart meter and the time is correct.

    Hi all,
    My issue is I'm in the process of moving away from EDF E7 & moving to E.ON Next E7 so I haven't got a bill from them to check.
    My MTSC on EDF is 811, my hours are 00.30 - 07.30 GMT & I'm in the eastern region. When I emailed E.ON Next over the weekend I was told my E7 hours will be 23.00 - 06.00. I was wondering if there was anyone else on these hours in the eastern region? Also is it even possible that these hours are correct? Also I do have a smart meter.

    Matches my experience!  Weve had E7 at two places we've lived and E10 at one.  The least reliable source of switch times was always our supplier.  Seems they are often clueless about this, even thought the regional timings have been the same for donkey's years. 
    As you very rightly say, the only way to know for sure is to stay up and watch the meter switch over.  The all have some sort of indicator as to whether they are on rate 1 (day) or rate 2 (night).  The last two places we've lived with E7 have had digital meters that have been very accurate and stable for long periods.  I periodically check ours, as my car charge point time switch isn't synced to the meter fifth wire, so I like to be sure that I'm not inadvertently charging at the peak rate.  
    The new'ish (fitted 2019) E7 meter we have now seems astonishingly accurate.  I checked it a few days ago and it was within a couple of seconds of GPS time.  Pretty good for what is a fairly cheap device (they cost around £30).  The digital time switch on my charge point drifts by a lot more, around 4 to 5 minutes a year, probably because, being subject to outdoor temperatures, it sees a wider temperature range than it was designed for..

    In theory the times on a smart meter can be changed - some have reported changes to tariff timing and alcs load switching behaviour - they are just numbers in meter parameter tables - like the pricing rates - following supllier and even just tariff changes.

    But there is no one fixed regional switch time anymore - there never really was - as individual analogue and digital meters could be offset by 10s minutes anyway - and some drifted significantly - by hours in some cases over many years in service.

    Can't they just!  I remember doing a periodic inspection at a house with E7 and storage heaters, many years ago.  Whilst I was sat under the stairs doing the R1, R2 measurements there was a loud clunk as the E7 time switch turned on.  This was mid-afternoon, the analogue-style timer was about half a day adrift.

    Yes sure read here their was and still is a 2 hr allowance on nominal regional timings before suppliers would look to adjust repair replace etc as meter switches drifted so much back in the day.
