"related to" the DPF ... not the DPF itself. They did the diagnosis (which was all that you paid them for) and advised what was the problem. They also advised that they couldn't deal with non-DPF issues ... the sensor fault was not a DPF issue.

I really can't see how you're struggling to understand this.

You paid £90.00 for a DPF check
If they'd found literally nothing wrong, would you be moaning?
As it is they have found something, but have chosen not to take the repair on.

They did find something wrong and it's related to the DPF by making the car think it had too much soot accumulation. 

It’s related to the DPF but it’s not the DPF and so they aren’t the right people to fix it. If the electrics kept tripping in your house and the electrician discovered it was due to water leaking into the electrics, would you also be complaining if they told you to contact a plumber to fix the leak?
