Local Search Results - Third Party Company

Hi, 
I'm in process of purchasing a property and the only thing outstanding is the search results - basically just the local search. 
I know the local search was completed last week on Monday as I directly called the council. 
However my solicitor seems to have used a "third party" company to raise all the searches and this company hasn't forwarded them on to my solicitor yet. 
My solicitor has said that the proposed date to receive them back is 1st June and that he thinks they will just come back on that date as shown in their "portal". 
Anyway my questions are:
1. Why would they use a third party company and not do it themselves? 

2. Am I being unreasonable by asking them to chase this company when it's the only thing holding completion up. (I asked them to chase last Thurs, but as of this morning they haven't heard anything and won't chase again....apparently.) 

3. Is there any way of me finding out who this company is? The council wouldn't tell me and neither would the solicitor. 
I'm tempted to try and call some of these companies to see if they have a record of it? Are there any popular ones that solicitors use? 

Any ideas?

It's very common to use third party companies - it lets the solicitor order all the relevant searches at once rather than each one separately so it's more efficient.

It may well be that the reason they haven't come back yet is because they are doing a number of different searches and will send them once they are all available - not all of them are done through the council. So the search co. may well be contacting a number of different organisations (e.g. the council, the relevant water company, the coal mining authority etc) and will send the report once all of them are back 

There are lots of different companies - there's no particular reason the solicitors wouldn't tell you expect perhaps that you trying t chase direct may cause confusion or damage the relationship the solicitors have with the supplier. 

It probably is unreasonable to expect them to chase - if they've been told they will be done by the end of this week then chasing is not going to change that timescale, it's just  going  waste  everyone's time (and right now, your solicitor/conveyancer is probably working flat out due to the stamp duty holiday so likely has even  less time than normal for unnecessary extra work)

I do know from my solicitor that all other searches are back and it's only the local search they were waiting on....of which obviously I now know it's been completed. 
Ok - I guess I'll have to sit tight.
