Dropped kerb - any experience?

Has anyone been successful here? If so, how much did it cost and how long did it take? And importantly, what was the hassle factor?

Parents had it done twice. The first time was fairly straightforwards but expensive,
Then she had it extended again to a double dropped kerb for half the price because the council were re-doing the road so offered it at half the price if she had it done at the same time.

Check your council's policy on dropped kerbs before you apply. We wanted to widen ours by a couple of feet but realise it won't happen as our existing dropped kerb is within 4.5 or 5 meters, I forget which applies, of the neighbour's dropped kerb so it would automatically be rejected.

Wow - it'd be £230.00 per sq mtr here, and that's just the construction part. Application fee and site visits at £80 per hour. Plus all sorts of "extras" may apply.

Somebody told me it could cost in the region of £3k which is just ridiculous. The costs you have mentioned are far more reasonable.

Haven’t had mine done yet, but was quoted £1250 for roughly 2.5m. We have to use one of our councils approved contractors, and this was the only one on the list interested in doing it.

I personally think that’s too much, but if it stops people parking either side of my drive and blocking me in then I guess it’s worth it.

    My local council

    Their inspection £167

Contractor from approved list inspection £286

If planning required ,further £206 plus possibly more fees if change of use required .

Plus then whatever charge for the job itself

If a tree preservation order in place on any trees in the way , no chance

If a BT pole or box on the way , you pay to move it , not cheap

ETA - I think (Midlands) parent's first kerb was around the 1K mark and the second was £500.

Don't forget if you're on a main road you may also need to seek permission from the county council/highways agency too.

Feeling more confident now, thank you! It will be 2.4m-3m x 3m. so I'm guessing I'm looking at £2k min.
